Cholesterol Q - I am very confused

You are eating eggs and ground beef? If you want to lower ldl you need to restrict as much saturated fats as possible, eat stuff like chicken breast tenderloin. You could also add ezetimibe. Get 10k steps in a day and do cardio every day.

Good suggestion to look at these....

Carb intake has increased, protein decreased as I am basically got rid of all the whey/yogurt in the diet.

4 weeks prior to June blood test
pro 280
carb 166
fat 86

From Jun 29 - Sep 1 (last bloodwork)
pro 234
carb 245
fat 71
personally would cut my fat intake in half, that would also allow you to eat more carbs..

I do 40mins on average of step mill everyday.

I understand saturated fats, but truth be told if it comes down to eating beef/eggs directly from farmers or "chicken mill" chicken breasts full of god knows what....I will remain on the beef/eggs.

I really need to got get APOs checked, as others have noted....

All that being said these are my results after dropping a low dose statin, so I am extremely content with the positive swing.

I now think every single person should get a sleep study done as it has to be the CPAP.

I've taken notice, you enjoy indulging in autodidacticism, kudos!

If time allows, being that a portion of your queries are through AI generation-retrieving.

See what you come up with by copying and pasting this: OSA->hypoxia-inducible factors->catecholamines release-endoplasmic reticulum stress-mitochondria endoplasmic reticulum associated membrane->lipoprotein metabolism. See if this assessment of a pathophysiological pathway linking obstructive sleep apnea to dyslipidemia.

You'll see that the primary organelle- endoplasmic reticulum is where a bulk of phospholipids, cholesterol, and lipoproteins, are synthesized; playing a biggly role in lipid metabolism.

Replace lipids in that querie with anything within your imagination related to physiology.

Ha! Yes.

I’m no Stewie (!!) but I enjoy the research and learning.

Thanks for the research tip!

Stuck working today but will take a peek later for sure. Thank you for sharing Stewie.

My EGFR also improved, 46->52 in that short span. This one I did expect to get better, given what Apnea can do to kidneys.
That’s good it’s improving but those are concerning numbers imo… do you have a cystatin c on hand?

Is eating higher quality chicken not an option? Why did you create a scenario that doesn’t exist where you’re only able to buy high quality beef and eggs?

It has been quite low for years. Have had a kidney ultrasound in the past year and all was okay on that.

My understanding of EGFR is that it is highly impacted by intense weight training and should not be that much of an issue.

No, I do not have cystatin results......I will put that on my list for the next trip to the USA.

I did not "create" the scenario, rather it is a supply side issue. Where I procured chicken before went to a wholesale (companies only) model. Still working on finding a new supplier.

I do not eat store bought meats as I figure the shit they pump into the meats (chicken included) would be more harmful compared to ingesting pure/organic/non-drugged up saturated fats.

Thanks again for the tip Stewie

I’m down some deep rabbit hole now that’s going to take me weeks to climb out of lol.

@Stewie

I pasted that query then asked to "dumb it down". Results below, quite interesting. Thank you.

Sure—here’s the same pathway in plain English:

  1. Sleep apnea → low-oxygen bursts
When your airway collapses in sleep apnea, your body keeps dipping into low oxygen and popping back out.
  2. Low oxygen flips the “hypoxia switch” (HIF)
Those dips tell cells to turn on a backup program (HIF) that helps them cope with low oxygen—but it also stirs up stress and inflammation.
  3. Body goes into “fight or flight” → more adrenaline
The low-oxygen spikes crank up your nervous system, so you release more adrenaline/noradrenaline. That signal tells fat cells to dump fat into the bloodstream.
  4. More fat reaches the liver
All that released fat flows to the liver. Think of the liver getting a steady stream of “extra fuel” it now has to process.
  5. Cell stress in the protein factory (ER stress)
Handling extra fat plus low-oxygen stress makes the cell’s protein workshop (the endoplasmic reticulum, ER) struggle—like an assembly line getting jammed.
  6. Tight talk between ER and mitochondria (MAMs) shifts
The ER and the cell’s power plants (mitochondria) sit next to each other and pass signals and fats back and forth. Under stress, this “handoff zone” (MAMs) changes, which nudges how cells burn and package fats.
  7. Result: your blood lipids change

  • The liver ships out more triglyceride-rich particles (VLDL).
  • The body clears fat from the blood more slowly.
  • Over time you can see higher triglycerides, lower HDL, and a more atherogenic (“stickier”) cholesterol pattern.

One-line summary

Sleep apnea causes repeated low-oxygen jolts → switches on stress programs and adrenaline → fat floods the liver → cell stress changes how the ER and mitochondria handle fats → the liver pumps out more fat particles and your cholesterol profile gets worse.
