Cholestyramine is an anti-cholesterol drug.It belongs to a class of compounds called bile acid sequestrant.Basically it inhibits the enterohepatic circulation of bile (inhibits re-absorption).
It's also used to treat chronic diarrhea in patients with chorn's disease.
Hundreds of studies indicating it's ability to affect both absorption and metabolism of of drugs (specially LIPOPHILIC drugs).It extensively lower the elimination time of most lipophilic drugs and most important STERIOD like drugs!
It's shown to interrupt enterhepetic circulation of estradiol and oestradiol!lower both endogenous levels of the drugs!
Studies on to evaluate it effect on oral contraceptives (estrogen based ones),It significantly decrease blood concentration of the drug!
It has similar effect on SERMS!study was done to see its effect on raloxifen metabolism,it significantly increased it elimination!It's strongly believed it has similar effect on Clomiphene since it's cis-isomer can persist VERY long in the body due to undergoing enterohepatic circulation!
So bassically benifints include:
Decrease in total cholesterol ,increase HDL ,lowers LDL.
Decrease estrogen levels
Decrease elimination time of SERMS and other lipophilic drugs.

Down sides:
decrease levels of lipid soluble vitamins.
can cause constipation.
decrease the absorption of co-administered drugs.
