Coaches

Inbox has been cleared for all those that have more questions.

Vu was the first coach I ever hired back when I was 19 (4 years ago) so things might be different now. He obviously knows how to get clients in shape and he had me taking EXTREMELY minimal gear for prep (600mg test + 200mg tren a week + 2iu hgh a day).

My main gripe with him was just how disrespectful he was. I was new to all this and really wanted a coach to properly guide me through everything at the time. If you're looking for just a diet to follow, someone to send pictures to and receive the changes, you'll probably be good. I felt like because of how new I was I received next to no attention when at the time, attention was the main thing I was looking for.

I prepaid him for half a year and ended up dropping him 3 months in when I was 6 weeks out and got someone else to take over. You can look through my post history and find an entire thread of me going more in depth into my experience.

I tried out a few other coaches since until finding Andrew Berry who I've been with since December 2018 and will be staying with long term. Won my first overall with him. He's extremely knowledgeable, cheap, CARES about his clients, responds to every comment I make in my check ins with his suggestions and insight, has me CONSTANTLY sending check in pics, usually daily or every other day from about 4 weeks out.

Dominick Cardone is another coach that knows his shit and had me looking good, I ultimately stopped working with him due to a personality clash. I have a friend that worked with him that had the exact same experience. He knows how to transform a physique, but he's pricey.

Coaches I've worked with:
Andrew Vu
Alex Kikel
Matt Porter (to peak me for the final month)
Dominic Cardone
Andrew Berry

If you guys have any more questions feel free to PM.

Spot on with the description with Vu. I’ve worked with Vu for 2 years. Great coach, but isn’t the teaching/convo type at all.

What do you mean by personality clash with Cardone? Thought about linking up with him.

He got mad when I posted on my IG that I was planning to post up a log from my prep with him showing all my check ins, diet and cardio changes (no gear talk).

He blew up my phone snapping at me, I told him I didn't think that'd be a problem with him and that I wouldn't do it but he still bashed me publically all over his social media. I was actually in talks with him of linking back up but certainly not after that.

Berry's awesome. As far as gear goes, he's probably middle of the road. Wants to know your experience and then builds it off of that...basically like any good coach should. Plus Berry is very informative and lets you know his thoughts on everything.

How was Kikel? I talked to him for awhile just because I knew he was open to experimenting. But finances caught up with me and never ended up hiring him. Has anyone mentioned Bleu Taylor? I know a couple guys he coaches and they look nasty year round.

Kikel was the one that took over after I got rid of Vu. He did the best he could with me but I was mentally just done after a whole stuff that happened (having to fire Vu, breaking with with my gf, having my house robbed) so I don't feel like my experience with him as good as it could have been, solely because of me.

I do feel like Kikel would be good for someone that was down to try funky experiments and just learn a lot more about how their body works. He was a very caring and friendly guy for sure. I'd thought about going back to him once or twice over the years since.

His programming is NOT simple, very science and evidence based. His nutriton and supplementation plans made sense to me but the training I wasn't so hot on. I've never been one for keeping track of tempo, pace etc, I've always been a "by feel" trainer and it's worked well for me.

Well. I went with Andrew Vu for my first show, we will see how it goes.

Overall, mainly needing some detail regarding the last 8 weeks, so will bring that up at my first check in.

I was set on using skip, but I think I’ve decided to go with Andrew Berry now

What was his rate?

Anyone used or know anyone who has used Dorian Hamilton (Team HD)?

Pardon the ignorance but I am becoming more interested in this process. What exactly does a coach do for you? Is it just a training plan + diet? I say just bc I assume most of you guys who have been doing it for some time already have the knowledge. So what is the benefit of a coach?

An outside perspective, something you THINK you can do yourself but you really can't. Just as with all other things in life, other people's opinions can be very valuable. It's for the same reason this board is so great.

A great coach is a valuable tool if you want to compete.

There are a whole host of things going into a show that you wont understand or even be ready for. Great coaches have been doing this for a while, have clients who can voucher for them, and can show you results. They also dont come cheap. But you will get tailored diet advice and well thought out responses to concerns and questions for that premium you pay.

There are also plenty of "coaches" that will take your money and give one line responses. These types won't even remember your name. If you're really lucky they'll try to get you to buy whatever supplement they're selling this week or try to get you under them on their totally-not-a-pyramid-scheme.

So ymmv. A very good coach will cost you but could certainly be worth it to you.
