My approach was very simple.
Protein always high, fats always very low, with carbs gradually going lower. The last 2-3 weeks my intra of 50g CCD might be my only carbs. Carbs were my lever for overall calorie reduction. I need to drop a lot to get hard. Growth relatively easy compared to prep for me.
I would go very low carb for most people, around 2-300g from 12-14 weeks out. Sunday would get a 3-400g carb up, with clean foods, bread being extravagant. No "cheat meals" with burgers or whatever. That will get cut in 1/2 at about 4-6 weeks out depending on condition and eliminated 2 weeks out.
I ended my 2018/19 preps at about 1000-1200 calories.
