I agree with this wholeheartedly. There is no way to keep the waist clenched at the bottom of the squat due to the nature of the motion itself. This in turn creates force displacement to the waste to stabilize thereby causing them to engage and work like any other muscle would, and most importantly react like any other stressed muscle would; to grow.
I definitely think the squats contribute, along with the low-calorie dense food, artificial sweeteners, etc that cause distension. I tried to pay attention during SLDL and I was very much able to keep it tight during them, so I think anyone that says it's dead is off base, I think its squats honestly. The question is, how bad would the internet backlash be if someone suggested not squatting to keep waist in check? Oh the horror, lol. But to me it makes sense, sure big quads are cool but a distended gut ruins a physique. I don't care if everything else is perfect, a man should not look pregnant.
As for a thickened waist, not 100% sure how that ties in or if the OP is talking about the same thing as distension. Def a good thread I hope more people chime in
I just read a post by Ronnie where he said he didn’t train arms for two years and upped his squats to twice a week so his legs would catch his arms. Can you imagine putting on muscle so easily that you stop training arms and they stay 23”?
Not hard to believe at all. i havent trained my biceps directly in over 8 years and they are still bout same same size. the indirect work they get from back exxercises seems to be enough. BUT ronnie also had incredible arm genetics. i worked at a gym w a guy that went to college with ronnie and they all called him "big arm ron"
