Contacting my Attorney General about Medical Records

So went to a hospital where I had a recent EMG and blood work done. I go to record to get a copy of results for another doctor that I will be seeing. Plus I like copies for myself. I went to records and ask for my records. The women working siad I could not have then as they are property of the hospital. She said if I wanted I could sign a release with the doctors infomation I want them to go to and the hospital will send then to him. I told here I sign a release to send then to myself and she said I could not. That is such BS. I go to other hospitals all the time and pick up my records, but this is not the first time this has happend. On other occasions at other various hospitals they have said they same BS. WTF. If is wasn't for me coming to the hospital that B*TCH wouldn't even have a job in the Record Department because there would be no records.

I'm going to contact my states Attorney General's Office and complain my rights are being violated by the hospital.

First things first, keep your cool. You probably well know, taht the moment you lose your temper, you lose your conviction ( I understand you are just venting to us, its okay here )
You are absolutely correct though... they are your records, you do have leal access to them at every point in time UNLESS they are being used in a criminal case filed against you. Do what you can without an attorney first bro. I would hate to see you waste money on an attorney when you might be able to simply walk in there when someone else is working there. You are right though brother, and I would be upset too. For cryin out loud its YOUR body!!!!

I'm cool I just was there today and they would not giving me my records. I'm not hiring an an attorney or anything. Each state has a Attorney General that supose to look out for the rights of consumers and citizens in each state. They have a website where you can fill out compliant forms against large business or health care agencies etc. Thats all I planned to do. Doesn't even mean anything will happen. I just wanted to send a compliant that this happned at this particular hospital and have on record incase they recive other compliants they would eventually look into it etc. The attorney general in may state is very active. He is on the news all the time for exposing issues with certain companies or taking action against large companies etc., I remember the was 1 particular phone company that were charging the states customers these fees they were not suppose to be charging and that was taken care of by the AG.

I really don't want to get into this redtape mumbo jumbo cause it can get pretty intense, and yes I know plenty on this subject, BUT you can always go back and thank Bill Clinton for this! That is pretty much where it all started! For now like she said sign your primary's office request and she will fax to who ever you want. Give them your home or office fax# seeing as how they never really check it anyway and you'll have it in a few days. Good luck.
