Just a quick question for you guys that compete. My girl has been prepping for her first bodybuilding show with the help of a coach since Jan 1st. She is still 5 weeks out but I was wondering one thing about her diet. Her diet is def working, she started at 20% now down to 13% with 5 weeks to go. Why do some people not incorperate healthy fats into contest prep? I was always under the assumption that healthly fats help burn fat. She is carb cycling and its working great. Her coach said why take in fat when your trying to burn fat. He's a big guy himself that has competed in many contest, so I'm just going by what he says.
 
There are many different approaches when it comes to a prep and everybody has their opinion on what works and what doesn't. In my opinion, the low fat/low carb method is very old school but it does work for many people, though I have worked with clients whose progress stalled when using such an approach. Personally I (and most people I have worked with) get much better results with a moderate fat intake throughout the prep.
 
I have had many competitive successes and each time i followed a diet that did not even measure fat intake. My primary concerns were carbs and sodium. I cycled and manipulated those and each time I ( with the help of my coach) achieved my competitive goal. fats are fine for some, not for others. This being your girls first competitive go round let her take it to completion and see how she looks. If any changes need to be made, make them the next time.

Yeah I'm def not changing anything about her diet. That's what we hired her coach for. I was just curious how many other people don't take in fats in their precontest diet. I'm hoping she will do good. She has the genetics and is aiming for 110lbs at 8% at 4'11. Only one year of lifting under her belt.
 
so if u lose weight with low carbs and low fats? would someone tryiing to put on mass have a high protein/high carb/low fat? or high protein/mod carb/high fat?
