I am about 8weeks out now, and my trainer is letting me eat carrots all day long between my meals. Saying that it will boost up your metabolism.

Now i have great confidence in my trainer, but i just wanted to know if one of you guys has even heard of this method?

thanks, TS

I know you want an answer but I think most on here are trying to respect the fact that you should listen to your trainer, and your trainer only.

But if you want my opinion, I wouldn't do this. But if your getting results and are happy, keep doing what he recommended.

Have you spoke to or seen anyone else that he's trained? How did they do?

i have seen/spoken a couple of athletes who are being trained by him, they are doing great. But i also know that they don't get his diet advice, just personal training.

I have this theory about hiring someone to prep you for a show........

You should be able to trust your nutritionist/trainer 110% all of the time. If you did your homework and talked with some of their clients/athletes as well as had a good discussion before hand with the trainer, you should know that they are making the right decision when it comes time to do so. I think the minute you start asking around "is this right?" your asking for trouble. You will hear so many different opinions and it will start messing with your head a little bit.

Follow what your trainer says and then evaluate the end result. If its not what you had hoped for, think about looking for someone new to help you before your next show. This board has some quality, affordable help available so just keep that in mind.

I'm not going to throw any diet advice your way, but I will throw some practical advice where trainers are concerned. Before you engage the services of any trainer you need to know their history! How many times have they prepped other s to a show, what were their results from the show, ask around for references. There are a lot of excellent trainers around, there are also a lot of trainers that would not really have a clue how to tune someone up for a show and they will charge you a lot of money for mediocre results. Some of the better trainers for contest prep are some that have been on stage themselves and have a good contest history. Remember though not all good trainers have ever been up on stage, but they have helped many atheletes get there with great results. Choose wisely!
Me personally I have not tried the carrott method. I perfer real carbs for my prep.

Well the money is no problem, because his training and diet advice is free for me :)

I am going to take the advice that ''AWN2004'' gives me in his post:
''Follow what your trainer says and then evaluate the end result.''

thanks bro's. i let you know how i did!

believe it or not...

i know of more than a few guys who use/ are using alot baby carrots pre- contest.

just to ease your mind, the one guy won his class and the overall at the last show he entered, which was a stepping stone to the National stage.

always listen to your trainer- a precontest diet is like a jig- saw puzzle: sometimes it doesnt make sense or look right until it all comes together at the end.

best of luck in your prep.

funny i / we are specifically not supposed to eat them.

I would just ask him his reasoning behind the carrots between meals. Pick his brain apart. Do not be afraid to ask questions. I know for my diet style ,carrots are forbidden while prepping for a show. The sugar content is quite high.

Thanks for the props early on TS and I wouldnt touch carrots 6 weeks from a show, its ok to have it now and again but everyday is too much. Stick with broccoli and spinage and get your carbs from clean boiled rice and oats.

You can cycle your carbs like 200gms day1 150gms day 2 100 gms day 3 and then 0 for 3 days and start over again, depending on what your taking and whats your body fat peercentage. There are so many ways to kill a cat, you got to find whats best for you but dont take too many chances too close to a competion, go the safest route possible and after you can experiment with diets.

Good luck

Today was carb up day and I blew it, I couldnt help stuff my face and Im 2 weeks out, anyway Im about to do 1 hr of serious cardio to make up for it hopefully. Its gonna be a long 2 weeks, but Im gonna give it my best.

Moral of the story is, if you have a cheat day, you might as well cheat properly or not cheat at all, lol!

i asked one friend i know being told to use baby carrots just why it is he is being told to use them.

it seems that they are used in conjunction with protein intake due to thier fiberous content which helps to slow down the assimilation of protein by the body. this in turn reduces the amount of time (when sleeping) the body is without protein and reduces hunger pains thru the day.

for whatever its worth.

You just took the words from my mouth. I share the same oppinion. They are very high in sugars and I haven't heard any serious bb trainer to recomend them in a pre contest diet. Other than that carrots are very healthy and rich in vitamins.

Agreed. O/T I know a girl who hired the help of a trainer who had her eat 3000cals a day right up to the day of the show. Now here trainer had never entered a Bodybuilding competition or got anyone ready for one. He just took her money and put her on stage looking like a pig with lipstick with the worst tan in the world(orange). Everyone laught at her. Now the following year she asked me for help. I felt sorry for her and her experence and thought she wanted it bad enough to succed. I took her under my wing and started here 20 weeks out incase she broke her diet. So I would have time to get her back on track. In 6 weeks I had her looking 100% better than she was on stage. However she did not have enough money. So I started giving her supplements on credit and did not charge her for my time. She pulled out of the show at 14 weeks out and I never seen her again and left a bill outstanding of 500USD. So she paid a trainer 200USD EW to train her to look ridiculous and ripped me off because she could not stick to a proper Bodybuilding deit ????????
