Guys that are health conscious (perhaps Emeric, MD, FF, etc)...

What do you use for your cooking pans? I just finished cleaning my pans this morning, and I happened to notice some of the damn TEFLON flaking off. I realize this is probably not a good thing so I dumped them all and will head off to the local stores to pick up some quality pans.

I need some suggestions. Thanks

good thought! I need to replace mine too. I heard cast iron is good for tomato based sauces since the iron will be absorbed in the food and provide supplementation to your diet.

Don`t use any aluminum pans, I use stainless steel cooking pans.

Emeric is correct. Aluminium can cause Alzheimer's. For Egg whites etc I would used Non-Stick Pan. I get it very hot first and then spray it with Olive oil spray can. For Meats etc, I used Stainless steel pan. Get the pan very hott first without oil and then put oil in and meat. If you dont get your pan hot enough it will stick like glue. Cast iron is excellent too.
Also when you use non-stick pan, I used a plastic utensils so that you dont scratch the coating and it will last longer. Also clean it with a sponge not something that scratches.

Hope it helps

there is a reason why the top chefs use stainless...quality. I will also use a nice T Fal non-stick. I also have a nice cast iron...

You get what you pay for...as with much in life, so spend a little extra since you'll be using them a lot.

Yes..the aluminum is not a good material, because the metals actually come off and go into the food. Aluminum was and im sure still is, in many commercial kitchens. I love a good cast iron pan for meat, because they hold a hight temp, and it decreases the least when food is dropped in. Stainless steel is also a good pan or pot to use. I stay away from the coated pans, because they too also contaminate the food.

I love the stainless myself. They are sometimes expensive but well worth it in my thoughts.

I bought a set of Viking cookware and haven't regreted it a bit , its costly but worth it , it seems to be built to last for ever. They are pretty thick and heavy making them hold heat well and heat evenly.

I also have some OLD cast iron stuff , I got a 6" , 10" and 16" skillet ,yea thats right 16"!!! as well as an 8" and 12" dutch oven. All this stuff is very old belonging to my great grand father and passed down.

I use the SS stuff more than anything due to easy clean up but the 10" cast iron skillet probably gets used more than any of the other cast stuff

i dont know how bad consuming teflon is to humans, but i know a girl who is really into her pet birds and she says teflon kills them.

i would stick with stainless steel or cast iron, you can get a cheap set of either one at wal-mart

definitely stay away from aluminum, dietary intake of aluminum has been linked to alzheimers

Spray pam on a hot stainless pan and you shouldn't have a problem with sticking. I got rid of my teflon a long time ago.

Cast iron is the only way to go!
I keep them cured and always oiled down .
Nothing sticks to them if they are prepared properly .

Hotrocks,

What are the particulars you recommend keeping them in top shape?
