cortisone (sp?)

any info on this guys. the dock wants to give it to the girlfriend. she was in a little fenderbender...she already had thearapy and massage, but her arm gets numb and weak at times. doc says no nerve damage and this will help build up strenght.

any experience with this?

cotisone is just a temporary pain reliever the problem with the shots are they are so temporary you need them over and over this will not fix the problem I suggest your girlfriend make an appointment with an ortho doctor.

Bloded is mostly right

But the cortisone along with some rest and anti-inflamitories could do the trick. If she's had this problem for more than a few months, then I would go get an opinion off of a specialist.
It is only used to reduce local inflamation of tendons and such in a very quick manner.

i personally would never use it unless a pro athelte because from what i have read it can destroy tendons and give you more problems.

One shot should not hurt her, but if they make her go back for more don't do it.

Cortisone is a steroid, but it is not an anabolic steroid. THis product helps to shrink the tissue that is inflamed and causing the pain. Too much of it can lead to perminant damamge.

Try ice and heat. Strtching and relaxation methods are good. A lot of tension is built up in the neck...she needs massage 2 times a day. MAybe some icy hot before she goes to bed. and an anti-ifmaitory for a few weeks.

A shot will be useful to help with any inflamed tendons etc, long term use or abuse can lead to problems but one shot is acceptable, especially for nagging shoulder pain.

A herbal remedy is Curezym (sp) a natural anti inflammitory which will not upset her stomach if she has that problem

A cortizone shot will help to ease the local inflammation, this is true. However, a cortizone injection is basically a CORTISOL injection. I personally would not ever want to inject cortisol into my body. One shot is not devastating, but over time and mutiple shots, the outcome will not be good. Have you tried ART yet? If not, you may want to consider it. Good luck!

if they have taken x-rays and an mri and suggest that the shot will help w/ inflamation then i see no problem w/ the shot.......the problem arises if she overuses the shoulder and really damages it because it feels better due to the shot......just be smart about the use of it and it will work to her benefit.......my 2 cents from personal experience...good luck bro.....ss.
