After a recent move, I was basically robbed - at least in my eyes.

My previous gym gave me 15 months at $300. It had a power cage and all the weights I needed. It was a bit dungeon-esque, but hell, I'm not there to have a party. I'm there to work out.

This new gym I was forced to join (forced because it's the closest thing to me in a 5 mile radius) cost me in excess of $600. I tried to talk the salesman down to $550 and the response was simply, "Sorry, I can't do that."

Why not?? You're willing to let me walk out for $50 less? Bastards.

Just letting off steam here guys. But anyway, I'm curious what some of you guys are paying for your gym, and what you like / dislike about it.

This new one is clean and everything, but so what - NO POWER CAGE. I consider it a piece of shit for that one reason.

24 hr fitness, large multi level complex, tons of free weights, cages, machines...$100/year. :D

16$ a month...

X-Sport Fitness $300 for 15 months...however this was a student discount

Girlfriend and I pay a total of $37.00 / month to workout at 24 hour fitness-

it actually breaks down (Mine = $10.00 and GF = $27.00)

$9.79 for 24 Hour Fitness
$46.00 Gold's Gym
$0.00 Pure Fitness
$0.00 Iron Works

As you can see you get what you pay for :( 24 is convenient but the atmosphere sucks, I prefer Gold's.

The one I work at is free.
The one I train at is $25.

My 2cents

I also work at a gym so I train in several for free but in all the gyms I've managed(I've been a GM of 5) the salesman might be telling the truth, he could have a bottom line(especially in corporations, privatly owned ones have a little more leeway) & as someone on the board said it is all depending on where You live...when I was in Cali...I paid $250/yr yet I've worked for health clubs in NYC that were $100+/month plus an enrollment...so Bro it all depends on where You are living

$92 a month for me and the wife, includes a power-cage and free daycare for the curtain-climbers.

Join the Army Man

Gyms are free and when you are overseas or deployed they are 24/7 for morale and rec. paid holidays and free medical, oh and recruiters do house calls.

The one I work at is like $300-500 down and then like $30-60 a year or something similar. The one I train at is free.

|--[\\\]>---------- Not that you want to know too much about my boring job, but bascially, the gym i run (and most are like this) are based on an EFT. This means, we prefer to get a 12 mth agreement and draft directly out of your savings or checking, with this being said, we do NOT promote a PIF (paid in full) membership, i never bring it up unless s'one asks, i wont lie, but we have one price for PIF and one price only, i do NOT let my sales ppl drop prices, especially for a plan that i dont even care to have, our price for a year is $425.

strangely enough, in the past 3 days, ill do the stats and we have 4 PIF! i'm about to kill my sales ppl b/c that would be around $150 in EFT that i have lost! yeah it's revenue for the club, but its not what we're after.

so i am pretty sure that the sales guy was not bullshitting you, most likely he really couldnt do anything with it. Generally, i allow my sales ppl do play with initiation fees and professing fees, even drop the last mth off the down payment, but i never let them just adjust price per mth on any deal. that's up to me and i never break, i'm just an ass i guess! LOL!

Our highest membership price is $45 and that includes everything, tanning childcare, spinning, and it kills me that ppl bitch about $45 a mth when they are spending half of that just trying to get into a stupid bar and paying a cover charge. So when ppl bitch at me when i tell them it's $39 a mth and they say, "well LA Fitness said they'll give it to me for $35"--i tell them, go to LA fitness, why are you here at my gym then? they usually come back.

I actually worked out at free at powerhouse, golds and worlds before I moved out here. I worked at 2 and friends with staff at the other. Now I hate paying but getting an okay deal for CA 30/month LA fitness. I don't really like the gym a lot the hours suck and they seriously lack on real bbing equipment Im considering trying 24 if they can match my current price.

Gyms In The UK

Well you guys will freak when you see what we pay over here in England.

I've just joined a David Lloyd's Centre (this is no way a B'building gym, more of a fitness centre) and I have to pay £74 ($125) a month.

Ok, this is expensive here, but you wouldn't normally pay less that £50 ($85) a month anywhere else and sometimes you'll have to pay a joining fee.

If you pay monthly you more or less have to commit yourself to a 12 month contract for the first year!!!

And also where I am at at the moment you have to give them 3 months notice if you want to leave!!!

Money, money, money!!!

Retro Fitness - 19.95/month no sign up fee and I am still allowed to grunt and drop weights :D

planet fitness

I pay 19 for me and the mrs and that includes 1 free guest...with unlimited tanning and 50% off drinks

no grunting or dropping weights allowed!!!

I pay $40 a month. . .everything you need. . all the grunting, dropping, and slamming you want to do. . .. . .It's not bad but the one I lifted at before I moved here was free, just as long as I promoted their contests (powerlifting).

$37.00 a month (free since I work part time there);)

For a small town I live in it's waaaaay too expensive.

TH

you must be from the north east bro, me too!
300 down and 70 a month, for a small ass gym dedicated to the rich hummer
driving soccer mom's in the community! Its alright but not worth that much to me. Its a golds I was a member fo another golds about 15 miles away I moved and wanted to transfer my membership and they wouldnt do it, I had to rejoin pay the 300 down and now the 60 a month, wanted to get my wife in for the 60 a month too, they wouldnt let her in without the 300 down again so she passed and goes to some all chick gym.... Its not about health anymore if it was they wouldnt sell their crap ass protein shakes with 1500 cals and 20 grams of fat and sugar in them, they wouldnt have a cofee machine with sugar and creamers in them and they wouldnt have the spin instructor who is fat by the way(real fat) come in on saturdays with a box of dunkin doughnuts for her class. Its a chain and an enterprise dedicated to $$ and not the lifestyle!
