Fish oil supplements are constantly touted for their seemingly miraculous health benefits because they contain omega 3 fatty acids. But a new lawsuit contends they may contain something else, too: PCBs, industrial chemicals that were banned back in the 1970s because they cause cancer and birth defects.

A recent lawsuit in California has thrown the spotlight on some fish oils.
Beneath the surface of waterways like the Chesapeake Bay, small, filter fish ingest polychlorinated biphenyl compounds, or PCBs, that were deposited there decades ago by electrical plants and other polluters.

When environmental activists tested 10 different fish oil supplements, they say every one contained PCBs.

According to California law, people should not be exposed to more than 90 nanograms of this carcinogen a day. But the results of the activists' tests showed three of the 10 -- Nature Made Cod Liver Oil, and Now Foods' Salmon Oil and Double Strength Cod Liver Oil -- contained much more than that.

to me its simple, eat the fish, get the good oils, the high qual protein etc.
i love sushi, try to eat it 3-4x a week, i think it gives me enough oils, because my hair is shiny, my joints dont hurt etc.

Unfortunately the problem comes from the fish. The toxins are in the fish and end up in the fish oil.

Also some of us (me in particular) enjoy the taste of a shoe much more than fish

It could be argued that even eating wild caught fish in large enough quantities to see the benefits that have been realized in clinical studies using pure fish oil would still expose you to risky levels of all the known toxins that exist in our oceans. That corn-fed crap the sushi joints throw in front of you is no better than all the other grain-fed commercial meat that's causing so many health issues today. How they train animals to gorge themselves on an unnatural grain diet is beyond me.

Fish oil is a direct source of EPA and DHA whereas the ALA in flax oil is converted into EPA but at rate of about 5% to 25% and would require you to take many times more oil in order to match the efficiency of the fish oil. Taking flax oil has no effect on DHA levels in the body.

They analyze fish oil say its pcb limit is 90ng, thats from fish thousands of miles away from the man made pollution, think about the concentration level at ground zero lolol

Theres no such thing as pesticide free chemical free organic biological grade food, its all got some type of crap on it, literally, scrub the shit out of it doesn't matter its permeated through and through.

You got smokers of 3 packs a day dieing at 90, you got the same 3 pack smoker dieing at 30, you got the granola health freak dieing at 30, then you got jack lalond drinking his pollution laden vegetable drinks from his juicers living to 80+ so far!

That's all true...I was thinking actually what difference would it make if someone took the best fish oil when they were using gear. I can bet a lot of underground labs have some contaminants-metals in those oils.

Still I not buying the cheapest crappie fish oil from walmart.

Is TP fish oil as good as Dr. Sears Zone Labs Omega Rx? I need to get on fish oil but not sure what brand to take. I know EPA/DHA is what to look for. Any help?
