CPAP Users -- Warning, Monitor Your Therapy

Settings from my doctor had my AHI still at 55 (severe sleep apnea).

Treated apnea should have an AHI < 5.

If you aren't monitoring yourself nightly you might not be getting adequate treatment. Use a pulse oximeter and/or an APAP machine w/ software to monitor yourself and set your pressure accordingly. It may save your life.

You should always go into for followups. most cpaps have a memory card that records everything, so the doc should have an idea of how you are doing.

Vall what were you before 55

I went the apap route with the software. Going to order an oximeter, just missed a sale at CPAPshop.com.:(

Thanks for the info.

I don't know, I didn't ask. They said I qualified for a machine and I was happy.

The thing is I just had a sleep study done a month ago. The AHI of 55 was until this last weekend when I got my APAP w/ card reader and software.

Had I not done this I would still have an AHI of 55 thinking that I was being properly treated. That is scary!

Moral of the story - do NOT blindly trust your doctor/sleep center. Even if they are correct your home is different than the sleep center. You may sleep in different positions, etc. Only by monitoring yourself can you determine these things.
