Cytomel T3 (chemical name: liothyronine sodium) is a synthetic form of thyroid hormone that is mostly used to treat hypothyroidism and myxedema coma. These conditions can be triggered by thyroid cancer, Graves' disease, and even by an unhealthy lifestyle.
Liothyronine sodium is also widely used in psychiatric circles. When combined with other drugs, T3 can be fairly effective in the treatment of major depressive disorders.
T3 is a regulator of the oxidative metabolism of energy. When you take liothyronine sodium it will increase the uptake of nutrients into the mitochondria, which raises activity in the oxidative metabolic pathway. This causes everything to work harder within the organism and makes the body demand more fuel. The increase of ATP and metabolic activity leads the body to burn fat.
Talking about the dosage, one needs to be highly careful as Cytomel is a highly effective yet strong thyroid hormone. It is very crucial that one starts with low dose, increasing the same slowly and properly over the course of a few days. Most of the athletes start by taking 1 25mcg tab each day and then increasing the dose each 3 to 4 days by 1 extra tablet. Some dosage higher than 100 mcg per day is not essential as such and is not even advisable.
High levels of T3 suppress the release of thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH), which will reduce thyroid signaling hormone (TSH).
There is the risk of being sluggish when you come off T3, and your metabolism may grind to a screeching halt. Therefore, it is important to run supplements to help your thyroid levels recover quickly.
Another interesting property of Cytomel is that it can enhance growth hormone (GH) production. However, using Cytomel solely for this purpose is not recommended.
So...T3 can be an effective adjunct to bodybuilders because it can help burn those stubborn 1 to 2% of body fat that won't come off through just diet and cardio. Cytomel should always be taken with Anabolics to preserve muscle tissue.
