Dads, when do you train?

I have a 2.5 hour lunch break, so I just do my workout then. Have my preworkout meal while on the clock— COR, protein powder, peanut butter in a liquid form. Gym is 5 minutes away from work so it’s not a hassle or stressful getting back on time and eating post workout unless there are meetings. This way I don’t miss out on spending quality time with my family after work.

I'm kind of an outlier. I'm fortunate to be in my 40s with two pension plans and investments that have done very well. Because of that, I train when I feel my best. Continue working primarily through eBay selling items from estates, auctions, storage units... So on. My time is really my time.

I used to wake up, go through the motions of my morning routine, and head to the gym. Sometimes that routine was in the evening instead.

Now I have the luxury of waking up and going when I actually feel good and ready. Honestly, there are days when I just don't. Sometimes I'm still exhausted, overly sore, or simply not mentally into it. I've found those extra rest days have been far more beneficial than the constant rhetoric of forcing yourself to get up and grind.

. I know lots of guys will say, "i'm not a morning person." If you're a dad, you're a fuckin morning person lol
Perfectly said! Not sure how you could be a Dad and not be a morning person. It’s the only time of the day it’s nice and quiet lol. The morning has grown to be my favorite time of the day over the years

Not a dad, but for me early mornings is the best way to do it.

Just kind of sets the tone for the day. Gets the metabolism going, get a good endorphine rush, get most of the adrenaline out, and less likely to get stressed out or have things phase me at work.

The only downside is the afternoon crashes can be brutal some days (but thank god for caffeine and modafinil, right?)

This is me, also not a dad but as I've gotten older I naturally wake up earlier so it makes more sense before work.

Wake up
Weights
Meal 1
Work
Meal 2
Nap
Pm cardio
Meal 3
Bed

Exception is leg day..I don’t want to be rushed and leg day is longer so I do the am cardio then legs after work. Hit the gym 2x a day, "cardio ' is just a means to get in 10k steps. Off days I'll still hit the gym 2x but it's just steps and stretching..if time and weather permits I'll do hiking in place of tredmill to get time outside.

First thing in the AM!! Out of bed by 5am at the latest and on to coffee, light pre-workout snack and supplements, daily injection. Answer emails, scroll through social media and Pro Muscle, let my body wake up. Hit the gym by 6. Done by 6:45-7. Shower, eat breakfast, more coffee, working by 8-8:30! Been doing this exact routine for 20+ years now and I love it!! It also helps that I have an awesome home gym so I don't even have to leave the house in the mornings. I started doing it this way when my kids were young so I could be there for their school activities, etc. Now I do it this way because I truly enjoy training early mornings.

I'm a 46 year old divorced father of three boys. When they are young, the only time to train is before everyone gets up. When they are older you can hit the gym with them in the evening, but the morning is still best because my evenings are usually playing taxi or there is some shit that gets in the way. My little town has a pool so I'll often take them swimming and hit the community gym quickly before swimming.

I’m a single dog father of two. I’m in the gym around 3-4 a.m. for no reason other than I’m a weirdo.

You guys that hit the gym before 6, do any of you just naturally wake up that early? Last year I'm up by 5am no alarm needed. In bed by 930 though

I worked with the military for years... got up at 4am everyday, I was on base by 0530. So, yeah.. I am physically incapable of 'sleeping in'. I typically wake during the week (4:30am) before my alarm goes off. Now I do have to set that alarm for 3:30am to get to the gym. But I am awake and ready to go.

Working occasionally in the heat, in Florida, it can be brutal at times. I found I had so much better energy at 4:30 in the morning than I did at 4:30 in the afternoon.

Nights I am doing gym next day, 8:30 to 9pm. Nights I am not doing gym 9 to 9:30. I know we are supposed to get more sleep then that, but as I've gotten older sleeping 8 hours is almost impossible.

Normal day (work 7a-3p)
Wake up 3:30AM
Train from 4:30-5:45AM
Drive to work

Overtime day (3am-3pm)
Wake up at midnight
Train from 1am-2pm
Work
*these days 3am-7am is standby overtime, if there’s no troubleshooting to be done I’ll usually catch a nap in this period before my normal shift begins

Damn. So the ol lady just handles everything having to do with the kids? Nice

Yea I do 8-9ish. 2 young kids and a 1 month old. I put my oldest (4yo daughter) down and go down the street. My wife is happy to chill while I go and lift.

When my son was little I had him in his car seat in my garage home gym with me. I’d just mess with him between sets. He liked being outside with me with the music and the iron clanging around.

I was the one who’d picked him up from daycare and eventually school. So naturally he’d always be outside with me afterwards working out. As he got older he’d still hang out while I worked out but had other neighborhood kids in there too. They’d tinker with whatever machines I wasn’t using. Fast forward to today and my son works out 5 days a week.

Guess he picked up my habits! At least this habit was a good one!

I have 2 younger kids so it’s been at night the last 6 or so years. Was after work but they are more self sufficient anymore.
