Hi interviewed here, maybe twice. Excellent interview(s). Goes well into, not deep but well explained, his training, contest history and a much behind the scene going’s on. Can’t recommend it enough. Have listened to it twice, his ‘tail of tears’.He does great impersonations too and has a wonderful sense of humor.

Check out Taming the Wild Physique by Vince Gironda. Out of print but easy enough to find a copy (sold mine ). Makkawy’s training is covered in there if memory serves. At the very least, a shit ton of fotos of him.
I had an old school coach who would do 4 or 5 x 12 (same weight all sets) during part in prep. He was big on using a deliberate tempo and squeezing the muscle during the first couple sets to make them harder and create more tension. By the time you were on the last couple sets the weight was moving slow anyway. This approach made you use lighter weights than normal, which he surmised deceased injury risk when training while really dieted down.
