Dave Pulcinella Update

I had NO IDEA Matt died! I started connecting with him when he did his project bodybuilding site and would not say we were friends, but loosely were acquaintances that would periodically chat. I'm shocked...no idea he died. I've totally lost touch with him the last two years other being facebook friends. So sad...think he had two kids as well?
He had a hilarious podcast around 10 years ago with Ron Partlow called No Bull Radio. He made me laugh a lot when I listened to it. Sad news.

Mike and Dave use to post here often.
I’m wishing him the best.
If I remember right he was the guy w the hair dryer trick back stage?
Health > muscles for sure. Hope he makes a full recovery and gets to feeling good again.

Lot's of guys in the 2000's era scene with bad kidneys now. I know on the boards back then it was not as talked about as it is now. With meds easily available even if you choose not to go the standard doctor route I hope we will see less and less of this in the coming future.

i was always wondering how guys from that era didn't develop serious health issues.. especially with all the diuretic use, untreated HTN, and likely untreated OSA

i guess the guys who develop these issues dropped out of the public eye, and thus, these things were never directly brought to light

It might be happening more often than we see / hear about.
For example, this was the 202 / Mr Olympia lightweight winner for 4 years: (and 4x NY Pro lightweight champ too)

What years did he win the title? I googled him and nothing came up.

Shit, I googled the wrong person. Thanks.

It looks like he lived the life for at least 20 years straight. Thats some serious strain on the body.

He's also the guy behind THE 6 FOODS THAT WORK! :D

Stay healthy and rock on Delimeat dave! :D

One of the best things to come from this forum and social media is the education on health and the application of medications and supplements in bodybuilding.

Over the last 5 years and more so 2 years I would say they’ve become much more frequent and in depth topics here and others channels. We are all extremely lucky guys like Dante and John Meadow’s (RIP) were real enough to share their knowledge to make that shift.

Sorry to say this didn't happen suddenly and it's not caused by some genetic disorder. Be serious. It's from uncontrolled high blood pressure, the strain of eating too much protein, the increased pressure from lifting, the drugs at high doses etc. be real with yourself. Routine blood work would of showed his creatinine and also his C Cystatin and egfr getting lower. Once he seen this the only thing to do get off the drugs go low protein or vegan diet, control the blood pressure lay off heavy lifting start walking. Everyone says don't worry about your Creatinine get a C cystatin. I qa sure you if your creatinine is 3 or above and is is chronic, you're in stage 5 kidney failure

Was in one of Bev and Steve's shows where Kevin English came in looking and feeling really sick, but sucked it up and nailed his guest posing routine. Was impressive but also hard to watch. I think he was telling Oscar Ardon he was already on dialysis then and training around it.

Some of these guys are the Kurt Cobain’s of bodybuilding. Drug addicts. Sad.

It’s one thing take calculated risks, take precautions, have everything pretty much in check, and be surprised with a health problem.

It’s another to be walking around sick, ill, skewed blood markers, water retention from organ malfunction, breathing heavily, high BP. That’s basically analogous to a heroin addict.

Looking at some of these guys right before a major health issue or death, you can often see things like edema (especially in the face) and breathing heavy doing basic life tasks.

Some guys just don’t know how to retire when they retire. They try to hold size, cycle heavily, and keep a higher than necessary body weight into their 40’s and 50’s. The pros who will likely be around for a long time are the ones who shrink after they’re finished competing. Dennis Wolf looks fantastic. Dorian looks great.

I’m no saint, and I’ve taken chances… but my foot SLAMS on the brakes if anything is out of whack. My social media footprint is a fart in the wind, and I care very little about what people think. When I’m done, it’s “operation downsize”.

now and he has clearly seen the light
Meh, if you really listen to him talk about health on his podcast it’s pretty clear in my opinion he’s still pretty lost on how a lot of things actually work.

Certainly an improvement from his past however of course.

On a different topic, I’m super interested to see how Jardiance use will aid in bodybuilders kidney function in the future. I’m glad you and @bbxtreme brought it to my attention.

To be fair, I don’t know exactly what he’s saying these days, so I am only going off limited info. His podcast doesn’t have timestamps so that prevents me from listening to it most of the time.

I’m glad Jardiance has been gaining so much momentum. From a health standpoint, it’s a wonder drug for both heart and kidney health.

I have to wonder why this happens so frequently in bodybuilding. Lots of people have high blood pressure through life and very few wind up on dialysis. I work in a hospital and have heard some crazy high numbers and very few are in kidney failure which leads me to believe there’s more to it . And it can’t just be PEDS cause it very rarely happens to Powerlifters . My bet would be Diuretics top on the list .

Because they die of heart problems from the high blood pressure instead
