Yikes. Scum in my book, I hope they get sued for all their worth. How hard is it to atleaast list the right calories on your flavored paste and artificial sweetners? I wouldn’t be shocked if all 200-300 calorie protein bars are lying.

Remember olestra? It was a zero calorie fat, went through undigested. They made potato chips and stuff with it but if you ate too much... Lol

Anyhow, epogee was the same thing except better tolerated. So there were lots of low calorie snacks using it. Low calorie peanut butters, chocolates, all sorts of fake stuff.

David protein purchased the rights to that ingredient and refused to provide it to anyone else so a lot of small businesses had to shut down since they couldn't get the ingredient that made their products possible.

Just kinda shitty overall but there were a couple products I quite liked that disappeared too lol

You may have seen recent news coverage about a class action lawsuit alleging that David contains more calories and fat than what's on our label. I want to address this directly. It does not. David is 150 calories. The lawsuit relies on bomb calorimetry, a method that measures total heat released when food is completely burned in a lab. Your body doesn't burn food, it digests it. This method makes certain ingredients appear to contain more calories than the body actually absorbs. Fiber is a clear example: it releases more heat when burned in a lab than the body can extract from it. The FDA assigns it a lower calorie value for labeling purposes for exactly this reason. The same applies to EPG, a fat substitute in David that contributes only 0.7 kcal/gram, compared to 9 kcal/gram for conventional fats. The FDA has specific, well-established rules for calculating calories and fat from EPG on nutrition labels. We follow those rules exactly. The claims in this lawsuit reflect a fundamental misunderstanding of how calories and fat are determined under U.S. nutrition labeling standards. David is 150 calories. I read through the lawsuit, and I am certainly not defending David because they suck, but from my understanding of how Epogee works...It is not digested by the body, yet when you burn it in a bomb calorimeter it still burns like normal fat. So from what it appears confusing because the FDA is going to have to make them list it like it is normal fat, but that doesn't mean your digesting it like normal fat. I think it might end up being similar to the "net carb" listing. You still have to list the full carb load, but you can list net carb after fiber is subtracted.

Yeah I’ve heard this as well. There label is correct for the amount of calories that are digested and absorbed.

I eat the Blueberry Pie David bars all the time. No more than 2 per day (otherwise you'll end up shitting out grease), but 28g protein for 150 cals is great. And the blueberry pie flavor is amazing. I don't care about the controversy, I'm still eating them.

More than just kinda shitty, this is the main reason to avoid giving them our money. If one needs another reason beyond the excessive processing of engineered ingredients.

Big reason I'll never put that crap in my system. Shitting out grease is a sure sign these are not good for us to eat.

Besides them buying the ingredient to control the market it also allows them to control more insight being done on it. Old enough to remember Olestra. I don't care if EPG is better tolerated. Our bodies aren't meant to ingest that crap.
