Day before show advice needed!

I'm actually a day out as well but a good buddy of mine is competing tomorrow and he has followed his coaches plan. I know there are a number of variables but he was wanting advice on what he could do to correct if there are any issues- figured I'd see if anyone knowledgeable had some input they could give.


Protocol so far (not using a diuretic)

10 days out- water loading 3 gal
Week of:
Mon- 3 gal, cut 1/3 sodium
Tues- 3 gal, cut 2/3 sodium
Wed- 3 gal, zero sodium
Thurs- 1.5gal, zero sodium
Friday- 1 gal, zero sodium

Basically he is thinking he may not be tight or filled out enough which is where carbs and sodium come in. I'm not a coach which is why I wanted a 2nd opinion but he won't spill over Saturday so long as he isn't drinking any water so he could always add carbs.

More wondering what the impact would be of adding sodium Friday night/Saturday morning after the water drop.

Any input appreciated!

That's what I said but I've been in his situation before and try and help a brother out if I can haha. He trusts his coach but just wanted to get any input he could on making changes himself if it was absolutely needed

He should listen to his coach.

Why hire a coach if he second guesses things, a coach is hired to remove the second guessing and you follow his/her plan.

Its also kinda hard to go by numbers when we have no idea what the dude looks like :eek:

If you haven't tried it a couple times before why the hell try it the day of a show.

That's just crazy - I thin my skin by pulling on it like a bitch and streeeeetccchinng it... I mean that's how they thin dough - taffy - etc. etc.

Then I just use an iron and iron out the wrinkles - silver sulfadine for the burns

I don't think all that nonsense is necessary.. If you are in shape just cutting water Friday late afternoon is good to go.

The biggest problem is that guys mistake (or lie to themselves) FAT for water... Its not water - its FAT and there is no magic to fix that the last day.

Yes. Load on water and then remove, sip as needed. Don't screw with electrolytes.
We all look best first thing in the morning, after pissing through the night. We have the worst look, later in the day after drinking lots of water. Not rocket science.

that's just it.....its retarded to even play with the day before a show.

the reasoning behind it.....is to deplete it "to dry out"....thinking
the sodium will retain water in the muscle.....which very well may be
in some people.....it all depends how much sodium your taking on a regular
basis.....

basically, its a reason to say you blew the show, or fucked up your sodium
because your really just not lean enough...

dropping sodium is just not needed......using it as a tool to carb up can
work however...:lightbulb: amounts and timing are what matters.

im not saying anything else about it.....not that i know anything anyway.
