Dead lifts and my lower back -OUCH!

please don't take this as me being a dick, but if your lower back hurts from deadlifting, even lighter weight, perhaps you haven't learned the proper mechanics of the movement. Same goes with squatting.
To the OP, have you tried a sumo stance? Also, conventional pullers often have issues if their feet are shoulder width apart. Try bringing your feet in to where they are under 12 inches apart.

Your build has a lot to do with it. I love dead lifts but have short legs and a long torso...not the best for dead lifting. So now I do rack deads so my starting position is optimal. No more tweaked back.

I have similar build but find deadlifting with a deeoer start and no back problems. Have to have better leg drive and lower back strength. I view deadlifts same as any other exercise after readibg alot of stuff by powerlifter mike tuscherer...he is top raw powerlifter that squats 3 times a week benches 4 and deadlifts twice...he believes those are minimum ...mind you he is raw deadlifting 750 plus and squatting 700 plus on very regular basis
