Detox cleansing...anyone ever tried it?

I just started doing this detox where all I consume is a mixture of lemon juice, cayenne pepper, pure maple syrup and water throughout the day (about a gallon of it). Nothing else is eaten and only water and herbal teas can be drank in addition. It really sucks, but I don't feel too hungry and I'm thinking that seeing as though it has been proven and will rid my body of all the toxins in it, it will thereby give me a good foundation/base for contest prep. Any feedback/experiences would be helpful.

have you had bloodwork to determine what these toxins are?
 
I have not. I got the "recipe" from a well-known homeopathic healer, if you will. I have always been extremely healthy, rarely so much as to have even a slight cold, but I figured that with all of the chemicals we ingest in our terrible Western diets, it couldn't hurt. Any experience, words of wisdom or otherwise?

never have done a detox. always eat meat treated with hormones. my liver seems to detox everything just fine. i suppose you could add fiber to your diet if you want to speed things up.
 
I feel perfectly fine, just figured it might give me an edge over others who also have toxins in their bodies but fail to acknowlege it or do anything about it for that matter.

You better look for colon hydrotherapy IMHO.

I wouldn't say that it rids your body of ALL toxins as there is probably nothing that could accomplish that huge feat, however, it is supposed to re-vitalize you, give you more energy, and a healthier appearance as far skin, hair, etc.
 
You might 1st try something simple and cheap along the lines sauna\spa for 10-15 minutes 3-4 times per week. And then a cycle of Senna Leaves, Psyllium Husk, and Milk Thistle Complex (all natural and cheap and very very effective). I would try this 1st then go to more expensive route.

You might also consider accupuncture as you may need some of your meridians recalabrated.
 
I do stuff like that sometimes.... Not because i think i have any toxins or that i even think it works, but more for a mental or placebo if you will.
On new years I took a bunch of cranberry extract and milk thistle, then a diuretic and a colon cleasing kit for getting a colonoscopy.
Then I did cardio 20mins to break a sweat, then showered, then sauna 15 mins, then shower, then sauna 15, then final shower.(drinking a gallon of water the whole time)
Then I drank this republic of tea "simply sleep" took a multi and went to sleep with ear plugs and an eye cover for about 16 hours.

and that was my new years detox protocol
 
Oh yeah the "Master Cleanse" don't forget to to get rid of that mucoid plaque(haha doesn't exist). For the most part cleanses and detoxes are bunk and just another supp gimmick. There is zero proof they detoxify your body other than anecdotes. Fasting is a good thing though and won't hurt you but definitely not a cure all like many claim. Most if not all of the effects are placebo.
 
toxins

toxins is a term used to sell junk products you want a good cleaning just drink only clear liqueds for 24 hours and use a good saline laxative. You'll have nothing left inside I promise. If you want to go one step further get an enema. This is basiclly what they do if you have to have a scope done.
 
I've read a few studies which have the general consensus that the best detox is to drop bodyfat, drink plenty of water, avoid processed foods (i.e. have a good diet) and get enough sleep. Your body is plenty good at removing the nasties by itself.

Now, if you want to ingest products which have health benefits (someone mentioned cranberries which are good for your urinary tract because they prevent bacteria buildup) then thats even better.

Edit: this is for general feeling better, if you've been using exogenous compounds/taking narcotics/getting really drunk e.t.c then you may need something better. You also need to differeniate between 'getting healthier' and 'cleansing'.

I'm with AESOP on this. Detox is a myth concocted by the people that sell you the crap to detox with. If your body is not taking care of itself then you would have health problems. Save your money and buy good healthy foods, fruits and veg. drink plenty of water to keep hydrated and to flush your kidneys, this is all you will need.
 
Uh, care to define what a "toxin" is, and why your body would store such a thing? My mom wanted to "detoxify" herself, so I asked my family physician once about it, and he said (and I quote): "The only 'toxins' in your (mother's) body are the imaginary ones in her head.' Ask any doctor of internal medicine to explain what "toxins" are and they'll tell lyou the same thing. Good luck with needlessly starving yourself.
 
master cleanse

I tried the mixture of lemon juice, cayenne pepper, pure maple syrup and water for 3 days. It's called the Master Cleanse.
I would have done it for a longer period of time but I got terrible heart burn. I think it was from the cayenne. I would recommend tumeric instead if anyone is considering trying it.
