Hey guys. Since 2012, I've spent most of my energy/effort on BJJ and no gi submission wrestling. Practicing 6-7 days a week, lifting 3 (4 max) times per week. I started doing cardio to prepare for the summer months of rolling back in March, then started tightening up my diet to "get lean" for summer. After a few months, I added a few days lifting (making it 5), and subtracted a few days rolling.

About 7-8 weeks out, I thought I might step on stage because I was making decent progress. A month out from the Philly Championships, I decided to go for it. While I'm not as lean as I could have been, I'm happy with the result. Now I'm back into heavy training again to see if I can take things to the next level.

Great work Dave :headbang:

Thanks. A lot went wrong with that prep. I used a water drop method for both shows in 2011 that made me GAIN water weight. Never again.

There's an article written on John Meadow's website that I followed by Pro Muscle member Homonunculus. I didn't use him for prep for this show, but have used his methods with great success.

Last time the judges said my lats were weak. I trained them a bit differently for the past two years, focusing on what I thought was giving them the most stimulation. I think it paid off. Next I have to fix my little biceps.

Any insight on the lat training? always curious to hear how guys bring up weak points.

You looked great man, I commented on your post in gear'd up group

You look great! Any chance you train @ Bodyworld?

What impact do you feel you bjj/etc training had on this show compared with others you've done? Positive/negative?

wow bro ... you have no competition in that line up! Seriously I think you look that great! Well done :headbang:

You look great bro, stacked with muscle, would really be interesting to see you more conditioned and take it to another level , because i think you have the muscle size there and the extra condition would just enhance that greatly.

Great work Dave! I still remember us at BWW after the 2011 jr usas lol. Keep grinding my man!

Thanks guys.

Honestly, it helped. I've been doing it casually since 09/10... But 100% since 2012. My heart/lungs/cardiovascular system is way better. I was already flexible, but I can now do the lotus position if I pull my legs in the right spot. I can also play some inverted guard. I think it helped make me a better athlete in general. I also couldn't get chunky because I needed to be able to move with the 150lb guys.

I'll never stop unless I'm really close to a show or injured. Too many other advantages as well.

Little biceps?! Not even close to being small! You look damn good, man. I read your post a few times and didn't see your placing. How'd you place? I saw that you got a trophy, but didn't know if that was 2nd, a win in your class, or overall? I agree you could be a tad leaner, but for it being a last minute decision I'd say you look damn good.

That's Mental Flex all the way on the left in the group pic, right?

Nice job dude!
You make the other guys look like they have never done a squat in their life
