There have been a lot of diet related questions lately and all of them have one thing in common,

You guys, and gals are not working out the numbers of the macros' in your diets. You need to know how much protein, carb and fat you are getting in total each day. You also need to know how many calories you are eating.

The composition of your calories also plays a critical role in the success or failure of your eating paln. So when you ask diet realted questions have the numbers ready so we can better see what is going on. Most people would be very surprised at how short they fall on the key components of nutrition. To many, eating a lb of chicken is a lot of protein. Well I got news for you it isn't. I have been seeing a lot of diets that are too low in cals and the macros are way off. Do a little research here and it will pay big dividends in the gym and in the kitchen.

The Master talked... :D ;) :p

Everytime I ask about macro ratios im amazed at how few supposed bodybuilders actually follow a real diet plan.I ask ,but none will comment.I wanted to get experienced guys thoughts on a 50/25/25 P/c/f ratio ,3000 cal ,trying to recomposition body ,Is this a good starting point?Im aprox 6,3 230ish ,pudgy.really tring to get serious about my diet ,Im convinced my lack of a proper controlled diet is what has kept me from being/looking my best in the past ,yes ive eaten for bulk and eaten "clean" for dieting ,but hve never really kept to a strict ratio or planned and logged everything as im trying now. Thanks guys

Hey bro, maybe I can help you with this. Oldfella will give you some great advice also. But if your pudgy, im assuming you are 15 or 16% bf. Just clean up your diet first. Use low GI carbs, complete proteins, and healthy fats. After you stall in losing fat then work on using macro's (I would suggest a (40/30/30). Eventually if you want to go really lean, you will possibly have to play with them on a almost weekly (or even daily) basis. I'll let Oldfella put his input in because he will be a better source of advice. He has real world experience with clients, as well as himself.

Sounds good Oldfella. Macro's and total caloric intake play big role. Next time I post my eating which pretty is the same foods I will calculate the totals. Speaking of food, I am hungry as hell right now, I guess that means time to eat!

Just keep in mind that everyone is different. What might be a good ratio ofr me may not be so good for you. SO you start with a ratio and then fine tune this for your needs, but always make sure you get protein, carbs and fats in this diet. None of these nutrients are the enemy, only too much of any of them will be. You need to start with a baseline caloric intake and build from there. There are basic charts and guides that will give you an idea of what number to start at then start adding calories for your levels of activity and age etc. Do also keep in mind that enhanced individuals will burn more calories under the right conditions than non enhanced athletes. SO this is where protein consumption comes into play. Enhanced? Then lean a little higher in protein to allow for better protein synthesis in the body. also higher caloric intake depending on your goals. But one size does not fit all here. Just play around with your numbers and see what works best for you. Unless you are specifically doing a keto diet then a diet void or too low in carbs is generally not a real good idea.

last, just remember, eat too many calories and you will put on fat. The trick is working out how much is too much!!
