I had to lay off deadlifts for quite some time because of a herniated disc in my back. Before i did it, bout a yr ago, i always did deads, but it was always the standard, on a block so i could go way down, style. Im 6ft so i always had to stand on something if i wanted to get FROM cause of the length of my arms.

ANyway the reason i asked this is because im doing a different program now, and im splitting my back/width and my back/thickness into 2 different days. Im saving deadlifts for thickness day. Can you guys tell me how i should incorporate rack deads into the program as well? Im looking to bring up my traps pretty drastically as well...

first off make sure your body is fully healed and prepared to deadlift again (def. check with your doctor) and i would def. switch over to rack deads for a while, IMHO safer for your situation.

yea i talked to my doctor about a month and a half ago and he gave me the cautious 'ok but dont try doing anything crazy'. I was dieting for a comp so i didnt start but now im back to normal training and eager to hit it again. Is there a standard for rack deads? Seems i see many different guys setting the rack at various heights.

i prefer starting at about my upper shin, some go just below the knees, I say go with whats comfortable to you

yea i think im gonna mess around with the heights until i get to the pt with the biggest movement but just high enough to take the stress off my lower back. I hate to do it because deads are such a great lower back builder, but i guess better safe then sorry. Hopefully my bent over rows will help out the lower back
