The rise in prices of products I had used for a long time has increasingly driven me into the DIY realm for many things - this now includes protein powder.

Sourced 50 pounds of whey from a dairy for a little over $300. The one thing I cannot get quite right is the flavoring (using cocoa powder + monk fruit). Ratio of whey:cocoa:monk is 3:1:1. Ive toyed with a couple others but none seem to be hitting the spot right.

Anyone have any experience or knowledge in this realm? Would be curious of what you use to flavor, especially for more exotic flavors like cookies and cream, pbj, etc. Lots of supp manufacturers talk about "flavoring systems" but I cannot find much info online on how they are procured or what they are. Could really use some help from someone that has gone down this route.

BTW noticed it comes in 100g containers. How many g do you use per serving of say 60g of powder (or whatever you use)?

I typically use like 1/2 teaspoon which usually ends up being around 3g. You can probably even use a little less but I like heavy flavor

Yeah, 3:1:1 is likely too much cocoa and monk — try dialing it back to more like 5:1:0.5 and add a pinch of salt or vanilla. Makes a big difference in smoothness and sweetness.

76 grams ( 1 scoop) is 25g of protein from true nutrition. Team skip formula

Actually I feel like there's not enough sweetness. But that could damn well be due to the bitterness of the overdosed cocoa. Thanks man!

Yeah exactly — too much cocoa can totally mask sweetness and leave that bitter edge. Once you pull it back, even a little monk fruit or erythritol will shine way more.
 
Adding after mixing:

- Sugar free syrups Matteos for instance
- Drink mix packs (those little single serves crystal light etc)
- Stevia water drops
- Flavour God dessert (Choc Donut, Buttery Cinnamon roll)

what`s wrong with a half scoop of Nesquik? I`d much rather have a little regular sugar than sucralose or other artificial sweeteners and chemical flavor. Try some coconut milk for flavor as well. I got the "almond cow" and you make fresh non-dairy milk at home. Almond, dates, coconut, cashews, water, any blend you want. No guar gum!
 
Another option that you could consider is getting just one tub of regular flavored protein, and mix them so get flavor, but extend the volume.
 
Mio, Gatorade zero, zero sugar lemonade or juice, instant coffee, crystal light… whatever you want if it’s unflavored I guess

Monkfruit is not artificial and has no calories

Yeah i feel like that will dilute the flavor too much. I love stronger flavor. Thought about just getting PB powder and throwing it in there. Love PB flavor

Bro. Milk-based gatorate/lemonade sounds absolutely disgusting. We are not talking about the "clear" protein powder, which doesnt carry that milky taste

I’ve never found any kind of milky flavor to unflavored whey, but maybe my taste buds are just fucked 🤷‍♂️ surprised you were receptive to the crystal lights then lol. If you find it milky I’d go with the instant coffee.

I included crystal light lemonade lol. I drink that shit every day - do DIY electrolyte mix with it. Love the stuff.

i mixed nesquick with liq egg whites while pre contest. worked great taste great
