I suffered a frightening moment yesterday. While talking on the phone and looking up data on the computer, I got dizzy and light headed. I was in a sitting position and had been for some time at my desk. I felt dizzy, disconnected the phone without even saying goodbye to who I was talking to, backed away from my desk, and prepared to call for help as I felt I might be going down. Cleared up in about 10 seconds and did not repeat. Never happened before.

I did add naicin, to my supplementation this week, is the only change I have made. Don't know the mg, but is there any way this is connected?

BTW made appointment to cardiologist just in case, but my heartrate on the monitor I wear has been rock solid, about 62 when resting, and I get up to 120-130 when exercising. I purposely do not go over this rate. I back down effort and heart rate falls pretty quickly as it should. I test Blood Pressure each morning and average around 110-70.

Would have said bloodpressure but that loos good. Stop taking the niacin until you see your doctor and he clears you.

could this have been a hypo?

what else do you use?

I think there is little chance of hypo as a had a balanced meal hour and a half b4 it happened.

The other things I take are:

Coreg(Beta Blocker)
Lisinopril (ACE Inhibitor)
Potassium
Lasix
Adult Aspririn
Multi
Co Enzyme Q10
Folic Acid
Vitamin C
Fish Oil
Green Tea Extract
Pomegranate Extract
Humanaforte

Also on HRT with Test Enanthenate.

Thanks,
Pwood

No offense, But how about checking your doctor and see what he or she tells you.;)

I am taking 500 mg niacin 2x per day, so 1000 mg and I havent had any issues. Only side I ever hear about is the flushing you might get. They recommend starting at a low dose and building up. Seen that some take as much as 3g/day. leegee38 on here is taking 2g/day. Good idea to see the doc.
A bit off topic, but did you ever take Plavix? Probably not since you didnt have a clot. Just wondering. I am on it now and the doc is talking like he wants me to take it for life. I see most docs say 6 months to one year.

Coreg(Beta Blocker)

Beta Blockers are famous for making one faint and/or lightheaded. Check the sides on your BB
and see if lightheadedness is one of them.

Scary PW. I thought niacin was a vasilodator (as well as for cholesterol)? Maybe it was a sudden drop in BP? I know in the past, sometimes out of the blue, without warning, I would start flushing, long after I took niacin. Maybe the same happened with your BP. Or a possible interaction with your medication? Definitely worth talking to your doctor about it though. Play it safe.

Just got back from Cardiologist, EKG, Blood Pressure fine, bloodwork not back yet. For now just dropping the Niacin. I have been on the other meds for over a year so I don't believe its them, possibly an interaction problem, no real advice from the doctor. Anyway for now, rightly or wrongly, niacin gets eliminated until further symptoms and or diagnosis appears.

Also, the reason for the board post is not a lot of doctors may have experience directly with people "over supplementing" things like niacin.

Thanks for the inputs.

If that is what it was, interactions can come from the most seemingly benign sources sometimes. For example, I do work for a hospital in my area and I know that they do not allow some patients to ever consume grapefruit or any products that contain grapefruit because of the drug interaction it can cause.

I get them sometimes. Stress. And always happen when I am at my desk.

This happens to me sometimes. Its just from being still for so long and standing up to fast. Sometimes it happens when I just stand up but normally im in a hurry and jump up from sitting down when it happens. Nothing wrong with you and I don't think its from the niacin.

Thanks, guys. DogSlime: Mine was like Big A says, just sittting at my desk, not suddenly standing etc.

It definately could be stress Big A. I was in the middle of eight things with one thing after another piled up.

I have an elderly friend from Greece who has been more or less my "mentor" for the past few years. He did not apply for the position, and isn't aware he holds it. He was placed in this position because he says so many wise things I have since found to be true. The reason I say this is his number one mantra to me is about the effects of stress. Unseen, Unfelt, but Unrelenting.

He is constantly challenging me to take it easy, take time off, take naps, etc. My biggest problem with this is I do not feel stressed, I smile all day, feel happy. I actually cleared space in my personal office this week to put in a sofa or massage chair for mid afternoon breaks/naps. I also have been bringing my dogs to work help stay relaxed, but they have not been here in a week because my girlfriends family is in from Italy staying with us and they wanted the dogs with them. Maybe I need to get them back as well.

Big A, and others: What are some of the things you guys do to fight stress?

PW, my favorite stress buster is getting to the gym. I am self-employed so I can get a mid-day workout in if my schedule is not covered in deadlines. Its nice to get away from the emails and phone for a while. I think just the sound of the phone ringing raises my BP sometimes :) When I come back, I feel refreshed and ready for round 2.

Also, as I have got a bit older, I have a more realistic picture of what I can and can't get done in a day. So I try not to overload myself. I have learned its OK to say no or to delegate. The world will not end. Sometimes clients get caught up in the habit of being in the rush mode, even if its not necessary. I don't want to rush my life away.

Thanks Brick. The odd thing is a feel like I'm one of the most stress free people around. I just don't have the normal stressors that I see people fretting over for the most part. I have been stressed before in my life (debt, IRS Audits, Cancer of Loved Ones, Divorce) and thought I knew what it felt like.

I do think getting a sofa or massage chair for an afternoon break is not a bad idea from the research on naps I've seen. One problem is keeping co-workers from coming in a plopping down for a nap while I'm doing my important Professional Muscle postings. I also am going to retrieve at least one of my dogs to bring back to the office, they keep a permanent smile on my face and I can take them out walking for a break.

My employees think I'm insane as I sit here and flesh out ideas talking to my dogs! Sure enough when one of them is stressing they will come get one of the dogs for a while themselves, however.

When I built out my new office, I made space for the dogs, a sofa, and a piece of exercise equipment in my private space, but as of yet I've only brought in the dogs. I was thinking about a treadmill or stationary bike, but I just wonder if I will really use it or if it will become a "coat rack". I have a shower in one of our restrooms, but that seems to be a bit of a pain. Have any of you tried this?

sometimes innner ear problems will cause you to get very dizzy.

The only thing is driving my cars fast and challenging. Training is no good, as my mind wonders big time between sets if I am stressed.

Twice in the last 3 years, I was ordered by my doctors to lay down and just veg around the house for 2 weeks, definetely not go into the office and switch my phone off, as my dizzy spells were getting so bad.

Driving the car fast sure is a great feeling, too bad the highway patrol doesnt think so! I have found myself driving faster now after my heart attack, since I havent been able to hit it in the gym. All I need to do now is crash my car. That would be the icing on the cake.
