Do older guys respond less to "normal" doses of gear?

Did some gear when i was younger and it seemed like i responded very well to a minimal amount but now that i am older i wanted to try it again and i am finding that my body is much less responsive unless i push up doses.

Now that i type that out it makes sense to me that this is true but would love to hear from other 50+ guys out there.

anecdotes ok :)

unless you had it before.....sadly no, it wont happen. just be happy with a hard willy.

I’ve noticed the opposite. The older I get the less it takes. Training and food have to be perfect though

I am in my 50s and agree above , I feel it’s part sensible training approach , recovery and being more elective on my food choices

Not sure if I respond less to ped , I am sure there will be a clinical study somewhere . Age probably brings a bit more thought around longevity imho

So no new growth? Just keeping what you already have? That makes me sad
yea, you wont grow anymore. like i said you CAN "improve"....you can change shapes slightly here and there.
but actual growth is gonna be a hard one. it sucks, but it is what it is.

About what age is the cutoff? Hard to believe you can’t make any new tissue.
Even with HGH?

Didn’t that dude big Paul grow 75 pounds in his late 40’s?

you can try it and let us know. im not aware of BIG PAUL, but i shall assume he was selling something.

You can defo grow in 50s … it’s risk reward for me now . Can I take same levels , well yes … what’s the outcome of that … that’s the key question I don’t know

cool....show us before and after's......

After decades of training and eating well i started shrinking by my 50's. Sarcopenia is a real thing. Seems even most pro's have a hard time maintaining much less growing by their mid 40's. To get cells to regenerate as well as they did in their youth would likley take a big butt load of drugs at least i would think for some one that has been traing and eating well long term. For someone just starting out or getting back to lifting growing can still likley be an option for a while.

He did think he’s early 50’s now. Partly is was down to him being bigger in his younger years so gaining what he had already had and also he pushed like 3g of
Gear and 18iu of gh

It’s probably doable to a degree depends on your expectations, what you’re willing to do and genetics

Really it all comes down to your genetics, from your initial post it would seem to me that you can make some gains, at least for a few years, even if you couldn't build more muscle, would you just give up and cry? If you think you can't grow anymore then the placebo effect may come true for you and you may not even try. So do what you think is best for you and then come back and let us know how it goes!

No, I refuse to believe there is no new tissue growth after 50. I will take any new growth I can get and I am working hard for it so I will see. I will take a few of gains all day long.

I forgot to reply to your initial post, yes it appears you do need more aas to respond, but it's still relatively safe,. We can reference the famous test study where they used up to 600mgs, that should be enough for almost anyone to get good results from!

Doesnt the body generally get less efficient as we age? look at the protein research for exampe, we need more protein to achieve the same anabolism as we age, so in my mind it would make sense that we respond less favourably to training, diet and drugs in general as we age. Though, our execution and practice of things might compensate for this depending on how on point you were in your younger years. Does that make sense?

There is nothing really remarkable about aging that makes you less apt to grow beyond the circumstantial: hormones being #1 (taken care of...), recovery, injury risk, lifestyle/stress, etc. If your training is sensible, diet is locked in, and you're on steroids, you should be able to grow really well.

From my experience and reading most every system in the body is less efficient as one ages. Sleep quality goes down, ability to digest food goes down, lungs lose elasticity so the ability to absorb/transport O2 goes down, telomeres can shorten over time as cells reproduce and the list goes on. A gram of gear a week in my 50's did far less them a gram did in my 40's. I did not try to chase dosage to see if i could maintain muscle better much less grow more. But there is only way way to find out. Up the dose and hope the health holds up enough. But at some point it is either give up on health or give up on muscle as i see it. Nothing lasts forever. Usually by their mid to late 40's pro BBers are not getting any bigger and struggle to maintain for the most part.
