does a high heomatacrit cause high iron levels?

getting back to the original question ,does hemotacrit directly raise iron ?
trying to understand this

i was convinced my iron would be low as i am a celiac and it is very common due to malabsorbtion ,i can only think that the high hemotacrit from steroids/b-12 has raised the iron ?

I dont see how you could have a high hematocrit and not have high iron. Hemoglobin has iron in it. See Hemoglobin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I dont think a diet high in iron is going to give you a high hematocrit, but having high hematocrit is going to raise your iron levels.

I asked my cardiologist if he thought me eating a decent amount of red meat was going to raise my hct/hgb because of the extra iron and he said not to worry about it because its not very significant.

thanks ,so having a high crit has basiacally elevated my iron

i did not know this before

crit is a measurement of red blood cells in the blood. iron is red blood cells in the blood. You cant have low iron and high crit or high iron and low crit.

Iron makes your crit high, not the other way around. This is what the Phlebotomist told me today where i donate.

a globin number of 33 is hard for me to understand

# Newborns: 17-22 gm/dl
# One (1) week of age: 15-20 gm/dl
# One (1) month of age: 11-15gm/dl
# Children: 11-13 gm/dl
# Adult males: 14-18 gm/dl
# Adult women: 12-16 gm/dl
# Men after middle age: 12.4-14.9 gm/dl
# Women after middle age: 11.7-13.8 gm/d

as you can see, take 14 or 18 and multiply by three, you get 42 or 54, my above crit numbers, thats how you know your crit when you donate

soooooooooooooooo, if its not globin, and its not crit, ask them wtf it is and let us know,

It is crit they check, not globin. I called today.

This is lifeshare, not red cross,**broken link removed**

It doesnt really matter which one they check since they are related. If one is high the other will be too.

Bumping for the question referring to B-12 and red blood cells ...

Would injectable B-12 increase red blood cells significantly ... to the point someone with high RBC/Crit should avoid injectable B-12?

Yes.

i think this is why mine has gone high because of b-12 .i have stopped now so i will find out when i retest

just going to do one b-12 shot per month ,hopefully to maintain healthy levels
