Does limb length make a difference

When comparing a tall vs short person,or a long vs short limb person, is there a significant difference in difficulty when lifting the same weight? I know the total work would be increased because of distance, but is there an increase in leverage or some other mechanic that compensates to equailize things?

Being 6'3 I will tell you my experience. squattting with a long femur sucks, but i can alleviate some of the strain on my lower back by slightly elevating my heels. My bench press isn't great, but that may just be from not training heavy enough. But my deadlift is huge, 500+ lbs and way higher in comparison to the other big 2.

Tall people say yes and short people say no lol. It is easier to look bigger being shorter though. 5 lbs on a 5'6 guy looks big on a 6' guy not so much

Lost my weight lifting championship in high school to a guy that was 5'4", barrel chested with T-rex arms.
Moved the bar about 3" inches pr rep.
While my nickname was Monkey w- arms to my knees.lol

Haha yeah I can relate to the arms to my knees. I'm 6'8" and I feel like it takes forever for my size to go up, yet my strength steadily progresses. Squatting is a definite pain in the ass to do. So I guess muscle still takes the same time to grow and so it just takes longer because it's so distributed?

whether or not it's harder for the tall guy to move the weight, it's definitely more calorically expensive.

Anybody with short legs is most likely going to have an easier time sqauting, especially coming out of the hole. My buddy who is about 60lbs lighter and 5 inches shorter than me sqauts just as much as me with ease

Probably wouldn't matter unless extremely tall. I laugh when guys that are only 6'1" or 6'2" use that excuse. The world records speak for themselves. Lots of the best benchers are average height or over. Lots over 6 feet. Also I don't ever see midgets benching 700lbs. I have a freind that is 6'2" and I'm 5'"11". We even measured fingertip to fingertip the same. I use more weight in every lift and he still Blaims his height. Ha

I'm 6'5" with long arms and have always had below average bench press #'s. But I also have long legs and squats are my strongest lift

more calorically expensive because of the extra body amount being moved or because the distance being lifted?

this is what i've heard many pro's say as well guess sometimes its good to by short

Being short is almost never an advantage especially if you play sports like I do. Being 5'7 sucks playing golf and baseball because it really restricts swing width. Only advantage to being short is if you are a bodybuilder and possibly powerlifter. My deads and squats suck, but my bench and military press are decent.

lol More calorically expensive, that may be a problem.

hahaha this is a good topic, I'm 6' tall and used to think damn man all the short guys have it easier but idk that thats true haha

Shorter guys have better build structure than someone who is lets say normal height .....let me tell you this tho dont disreguard those skinny long arm guys cause some of them are strong as hell ..lolz.

Yes, if you have T-Rex arms you'll have a lower leverage point than someone with Chimp like arms..
