DOMS question.

We all know that training tears muscle fibers which stimulates growth. We also know that the fastest people see growth is within the first couple months of training. Which is also the same time that DOMS is mostly there.

I dont get sore hardly ever anymore from training. I have changed my routines, lifted heavier and even tried more sets. DOMS just doesnt happen any more. When it does and that is few and far between it is so minor that I only notice it when stretching.

Does this mean that I am not doing enough in the gym? Do you think that not having DOMS is a sign that muscle fibers are not being broken down enough?

Any thoughts?

I'm thinking that this is a sign that your body has adapted to what you do.

Do you perform the same exercises, sets reps etc. with only small, gradual weight progression?

I do a lot of the same exercises. I change the rotation of them. I add weight. when I can. Reps and sets are never the same. I always try to do more reps then the previous session. Sometimes I throw in an extra set depending on how I feel.

If you're getting stronger for the rep ranges and exercises you are using, is not feeling DOMS an issue?

I am in the same boat as you are . . . I'll feel sore here and there, but the only time I get real sore doing an exercise I've always been doing is if for some reason that day I just KILL what I did the previous session and get a shit ton of reps i.e. going from 205x4 on the hang clean to 210x12.

Getting stronger isnt really the goal though. Yes I care about strength but I want to grow also. And I know a lot of people say as you get stronger you grow. But look at these little guys that are like 185 that can dead lift 700lbs. I mean I see the shit on youtube all the time. I want to be big not just strong. In my mind muscle soreness equals micro tears in the muscle. You think that if you are breaking down enough muscle tissue for growth you would feel it the next day.

Is my thought process wrong?

These 185 lb guys who deadlift 700 will have their "deadlift muscles" developed, but if they have a shitty bench (these go hand in hand often) their "bench press muscles" will be smaller, hence their overall physique not appearing as big.

Etc. etc.

Ok so then back to the original question just because you are not expierencing DOMS does not mean you are not creating micro tears in the muscle creating growth. Correct?

So I should not be concerned with never being sore?

I would not be concerned with that. I would be concerned though if you are losing strength or muscle mass. Many claim that DOMS is not essential to growth, and I would have to say that for me that was true too especially when on AAS. I always got more sore when natural. I am able though to make my self sore if I really try. Doing things like drop sets, rest pause, etc will get intensity up there enough to make you sore.
