Donated blood

So the girl that works at the blood donation center I go to talked me into doing the double draw action.

Other than taking about 10 mins longer and feeling the "cold" blood going back into my arm, it wasn't any different than the single draw that I could tell.

To show me how much a difference it makes, she took my iron levels after I was done - dropped from 16.7 before giving double to 14.2 afterwards.

Be interesting to see how much more hematocrit drops doing doubles which I assume will be the case.

Do you have Type O blood? I scheduled double reds but they only let me do whole blood since I am Type A and they only want Type O blood.

Double red is the only way to go if your on aas. They take alot more red blood cells because they put the plasma back into your system. When you do a single donation the draw is roughly half red blood cells and half plasma. So its roughly 4x as much. This was told to me by the guy who drew my blood. The only catch is you can onloy donate 3x per yr.

Yep - she said what she took from me was the equivalent of 4-5 single draws. Every 4 months is also correct.

She also said that most of the time when you do single draws that they end up throwing away the plasma and platelets I think because they can only store them for a few days. Doing double draw eliminates that problem.

That just depends on what blood they need more of at the blood bank. I am type a and they let me do double rbc
