Doxycycline hindering muscle growth/nutrient uptake?

I've been on doxycycline 100mg 2x a day for about 3years for acne, does an awesome job for me. I'm one of the people who doesn't get stomach issues, or get sunburned while on it.

I've been researching and some things point to it may be limiting my progress. Being an antibiotic.... It's possible it's constantly wiping out my good gut bacteria, which is responsible for helping with nutrient uptake /absorption. This along with other factors may limit my progress in theory. What is everyone's take on that?

**note, acne on my back and chest was terrible after my first cycle, fought with it for 3yrs before going on doxycycline and it made a world of difference. I still have some acne at any given time unless I religiously tan, but nothing like it used to be so I'm very hesitant to come off...

Why not try cutting your dose in half (split twice a day) to ween yourself down and add a good probiotic daily with food?

Dont recall any specific studies on antibiotics reducing protein synthesis or anything, but I know they are out there. Tetracyclines inhibit protein synth, doxy is in that family. Aside from that, Antibiotics alter the gut chemistry and balance of good flora (probiotics). After long enough use, this will result in an imbalance and your digestion and food utilization will not be optimal. I think that is one simple conclusion you can make. I'm a firm believer that an optimized GI/digestive system is crucial for overall whole body immune health and also nutrient uptake and thus overall nutrition. A poor digestive system will not be as efficient. If you cant stop the antibiotics, invest in some quality probiotics (nut just pills, look into foods like sauerkraut, yogurt, etc.)

Bacteria is responsible for helping transport of oral AAS. I stick to injects while using antibiotics.
I feel most of us take a lot more protein and vitamins than we need. As bodybuilders we tend to overdo things. I bet you still absorb more than enough nutrients to grow.

I was on Doxy for a year, my doses were higher. I noticed that I didn't recover and was more prone to injury. Totally wiped out good bacteria, couldn't digest much.

This has been on my mind too. Currently using 200mg x2 per day. I am using it for acne but mine isn't too bad. I am gonna drop down to 100mg twice daily from Monday. If my digestion gets worst later on I will probably stop it.

been on it like six months first time 20 mgs 2x;s daily for gums, now 100 mgs eod..and grew on it

recently came off

a good idea to take lots of probiotics or eat probiotic foods on it
