Draining a abscess

Have any or you ever done this on your own. I have a friend that had it done at the hospital and they cut a squar out of his ass and drained the fluid that way. The incesion was like 2 inches deep. I know the depth will vary, but would it be possible to get the fulid out with maybe a 23g pin, or do I have to go 18-21g. I know this would have to be a process, probally take a few days to get it all, but could this work.

Damn man,I'm thinking I'd rather someone who knows what they're doing perform that on me.Thats some serious shit there man I wouldn't fuck around with that....
I'd play it safe and take my ass to the hospital,where it's sterile and face whatever repercussions(if any ) later.I'm sure they'd wanna pump you full of anti-biotics which you probably don't have access too anyway.Good luck bro.....

I´ve heard of people doing it themselves, but thats some crazy shit to do. I had one removed from my tricep which was just around the surface of the skin. Still it was filled with tons of brownish puss that took weeks to get totally drained. I still have ugly scars left and it was 1,5 years ago. Nasty shit.

The area is not infected. It has just been used too many times so I would not need anits and even if I did my dad could just prescribe them for me. I would have him do it but we do not see eye to eye on the things I do so that last thing I want to do is say hey pop need you to drain some shit out of my glutes.

The area is small and is just a small ball shape, also it is all in one area.

Has anybody done this. I know I saw a thread on here about somebody doing this. I mean I put it in I can take it out. I just dont want this thing shifting up into my hip area. That would cause some problems. thanks.

Bump for Xcel to answer. I know he did some "do-it-yourself" abcess draining in his bi's and was ultimately successful.

hey weight i might be able to be of assistance to you.

i had 2 abcesses and drained both of them myself. first one was on my quad and the second one was on my tri. i have tried using 23g's and they dont have enough needle to pull the thick fluid through. i tried everything small, but i ended up needing an 18g to pull it through. i think i pulled a tad bit out with a 20g, but then i put on a 18 and it started sucking out.. i drained it a few days and it seemed to help alot with the knots that i had. the only thing that sucked was the huge ass needle going into my tricep!!!

but i still think its better than getting a square cut out of my skin.

btw, sorry if this dosent make sense, i just got back from the doc and have severe strep throat and she also gave me some tylenol w/ codeine. i popped a couple of em and things are kinda funny feelin right now..lol

No not scar tissue. It is very, very painful. I can move it around with my hand, to an extent. I am going to wait and see what Excell says.

I really didn't want to respond 'cause this is a medical issue and I'm not a medical practitioner.

My problem (fluid in both biceps) was apparently sterile abcesses - doctor never really told me what it was

Mine were NEVER:
sore
swollen (well they looked swole - LOL)
red
feverish or hot
exhibited ANY pain

I discovered the fluid by aspirating. I simply avoided it for months as it never bothered me. When I decided to see how much I could actuall draw out - it scared the shit out of me. I was using a 22g pin and filling 12ml syringes! I did a course of Keflex and doc said that he would have had me double the amount and for a couple of days longer - but never put me back on any antibiotics.

My experience was rather unique. So unless you have the exact symptoms as mine, I would not try and draw any conclusions from my experience.

Since you have swelling AND pain from the site, I'd have it looked at by a doc. Do as I did - tell them you were injecting a water-based product - Sytheselen and gave him a list of contents, pointing out that it was non-steroidal. Infection/abcess can be caused by "anything" or method of injection.

you can also get good antibiotics from a feed store or vet place. Get something you know your not allergic to and step up to the injectable will be much faster and your not afraid of pins. Of course I am not a docter.

My abscess were all red and even starting to get purple before I had it cut out. I did´nt have any fevers or anythin though and it all happened quickly. The doctor told me I would´ve had blood poisoning in a matter of hours so it was never really a question of doing it yourself for me. Wierd thing was that my abscess popped up in a diffrent area on my tri then where I did the injection.

thats a good question pumped, usually i never have any problems. i remember talking to my training partner about never getting abcesses, then bam i got one.

weird thing is the one that i got on my tri was actually formed in a different spot from where i injected also. i injected into the upper outer/long head. the abcess developed a little aboce my elbow.

I did everything by the book but still got one. Shit happens sometimes. I would´ve started taking strong antibiotics faster if it would´ve happend today, not sure it would´ve done much good though. I joked about something like it could happen, but it was not so funny when it did. My nerves are abit messed up in my tri now, but all the strengh is back again. I got mine on the inside of the tri, where it touches your lats and I injected much higher up on the long head. Wierd shit.
