drawing from an amp

Can somebody recommend a good reference of how drawing is performed when drawing from an amp.

As a newbie, I want to understand all the intricacies of how to draw.

I've never opened an amp so I don't know what to expect. Do most of you use a filter when drawing?

Additionally, is there a need to change needles after drawing?

How much liquid is usually left in the amp after drawing? Can the syringe get close to 100% of the liquid in the amp?

1 -score the amp
2 - pop the top off but use a napkin or something so you dont cut yourself
3 - i like to use an 18g to draw out
4 - i like to use a 22g to inject

you should be able to get everything out of the amp just fine...good luck!

Turn the amp upside down

Yes, you heard me correctly...

After you pop the top, you can turn the amp upside down and the liquid iniside that sucker will defy gravity. It has to do with the shape of the ampule. Once it's upside down, it's real easy to suck out every last drop...

do any small glass particles get inside the amp?

Occasionally yes, but they are still too big to get sucked into the syringe.

If you're worried about it, you could always use an ampule opener such as the one below. Just plug "ampule opener" into a search engine and you'll find a place to buy one. They are generally less than $10.

I would assume it would work with water also, but I've never tried it. I have, however, done it successfully with a winnie amp (which is waterbased).

i always used 19g filter needles to draw the compound, switch to whatever size you use and go at it. the last thing you need is a tiny shard of glass in your ass. when i worked in the er these are the people we would be laughing at while we lanced them to find and remove the glass, happens more than you would think
