Dumbbell rows

Has anyone ever done dumbbell rows like this? Instead of pulling up, the arm remains in a fixed position and it’s more of a swinging back motion. I tried it last night in my room with no weight and it’s all lat. This morning at the gym with a dumbbell went well too.

The top video looked like bent over DB rows. Didn’t have as much of an arm bend, but didn't know if their muscle size prevented better form.

Couldn’t really see what you were talking about till the 2nd video. Only noticed it when he switched to his left side.

Pull straight arm, then contract the arm. Best of both worlds, wild lat pumps

I like to swing it back a bit, but not on a bench like Dalles does on the first video. Feels real good :)

I try to feel like I'm pulling the weight to my hip. For me that works to keep the weight moving in the way the videos show.

I do db rows bent over and pull up and back so perhaps I'll try it the way demonstrated in the video to see how it goes when I go to the gym tomorrow.

Sadly I’ve never gotten great mind muscle connection with DB rows. Any tips or video recommendations would be appreciated.

I dunno if I’ll succeed with this explanation, but here goes….

When I’m doing DB rows as I’m pulling the weight up, I slightly twist my torso too. So if I’m rowing with my right arm and I start to twist; my left shoulder will dip down towards the bench while the right shoulder opens upwards.

During this slight twist you should feel your lat begin to tighten. I will hold this position, squeeze my lat until it burns while holding the weight. Then slowly lower it back down still flexing my lat.

Did I just make things clear as mud?

I never did well with them either. I do unilateral Hammer Strength low rows to train the lats the same way.

The best way I can describe it is to picture yourself pulling the ripcord for to start a lawn mower or other gas-powered tool ... slow it down in your head, and focus on the motion of pulling the weight up while twisting your body in a similar manner
