Bilateral quad tendon rupture 22 weeks back

Squatting again and today did 110lb bells in each hand for 12 reps

Strength slowly coming back

Was doing 495 x 10 barbell pre injury.. Would doing 450lb be similar with bells?

Who else does heavy dumbbell squats?

I find it's safer and can do it at home

Plan is to work up only to 275 ish and do higher reps, like 25-30 reps

How much harder is dumbbell squats to barbell weight wise?
 
I just finished a high rep session today, winded like a sonuvabitch from 'em

Fuckin' LOVE dumbbell squats!

Basically, an injury proof exercise

It gives me complete control over the movement as I can vary the angle of my torso to hit different areas of the thighs

If I swing the bells to the front on descent I get a great upper back pump and the entire length of traps are sore as shit the next day

Most of the time when leg day rolls around, which is every other day, I tend to feel guilty for not back squatting but I'll tell ya as soon as I'm finished dumbbell squatting I'm thrashed and there ain't no room for guilt!

An awesome exercise that will never leave my thigh blasting arsenal

I find it a lot harder than barbell squats

For sure I agree about the control you have and less risk of injury
 
Bulgarian squats are no fucking joke
 
Barbell/dumbbell step-ups are another great unilateral thigh blaster in addition to the Bulgarians

I like to do/incorporate goblet squats.

I love trap bar dead lifts. I do then holding DBs for quads.
 
I do my high rep squats with dumbbells.. Or I did some years back.

If Im training high reps I found I was able to move faster and safer with dumbbells so I could really push myself. I was trying to get a better vertical and gain some speed and that was part of my routine.

I hadnt thought about that stint of time for years now
 
I can hear my knees snap, crackle and pop on any squatting movement, but at the same time, I need more variety for quads thanks to the lack of good leg equipment at my gym. Dumbbell squats are something I haven't done in ages
