I've searched around a bit and I can't seem to find a real definitive answer. Do essential amino acids count as protein in terms of macros? 1=1 ratio? I picked up some eaa from true nutrition to supplement intra workout. If you don't count them as protein - why not? Thank you!

I have a bottle of amino acids that says each serving size is 2g of protein and 10 calories. I don't count them.

I was just asking myself this yesterday when I looked at the Intra MD label and it had 120 calories from 30g of carbs only yet has EAA in it. I am a fairly bright guy, but have to admit I am confused how something that is I think considered a form of protein can have no calories???

I believe this has to do with the fact that they are free form amino. This means there is no bonds to break which is when energy is release. They just absorb and get shuttled into the blood stream.

so since they are free forming amino, they haven't formed a peptide bond which when a bond is formed would result in a protein-correct?

The average calories per gram of EAA is 3. If you need to count them in daily calories.
