Effect of increased prolactin?

I'm going to be taking a medication that is known to dramatically increase prolactin hormone levels. The doctor told me this causes most people (men and women) to gain noticeable weight.

Should I expect this to hurt my gains?

I figure gaining weight could be good if I'm in a bulking mode, but I wonder if it will decrease my test too, because prolactin is primarily a "female" hormone.

Anyone know if this could be catabolic?

Prolactin in high levels can make you lactate and cause puff nipples and lumps. There are ways to reduce it... my favorite drug is Pramipexole...

Prolactin probably doesnt cause you to gain "good" weight, probably mainly water and fat just guessing tho...Prolactin is nasty stuff really

No, prolactin is not catabolic but its excess is undesirable. The symptoms of excess prolactin depend -- at least partially -- on the magnitude of the excess.

The spectrum of problems associated with excess prolactin include decreased libido, soft erections, impotence, infertility (due to oligospermia), and gynecomastia. If the breast tissue is "estrogen primed" then there is also the risk of galactorrhea (i.e. milk production). If you are using aromitisable AAS and aren't using an AI then your breast tissue will be primed with estrogen.

If you are going to use a prolactin inhibitor make sure it doesn't compromise the effectiveness of your medication. The dopaminergic effect of the prolactin inhibitors may interfere with the therapeutic effect of some of the drugs that can raise prolactin levels. Not knowing what your medication is I can only speak in broad and general terms.
