ok....some people will say; humm?... shes a bit clumsy, but this time I really did it.
I was walking out of the kitchen, like I do many times..usually carrying something....well this time, I hit my elbow on the corner of the bar top, over 3 weeks ago...I didn't think I hit it that hard, although it really hurt, and I almost dropped my dish with my dinner. I thought, ok, this pain will pass right?...I mean I always bump into something...well, it still hurts, and it affects my workouts....the corner of the bar hit between bones, on tissue, and it was swollen,
what do you guys think? It hurts since that day 24-7. Its really annoying now, and its hard to lift heavy now, which really annoys me, since I had been gaining strength.

Please advise, and thanks.

How bout an anti inflammatory such as Naprosyn? Ive been through that type of injury before and had to use lighter weights and just burn through it, great time to work on strict form and blood volume. Best of luck!

yes..

I have had to go lighter...I will get some of that, thanks. I'm ready to try anything, and was going to visit the doctor, but he will just tell me not to work out...He's on his way out...I will find a Doc soon thats not against lifting.

Is there any bruising in the area?

I'm a huge fan of using glucosamine sulfate for this type of thing. The anti-inflammatories are fine but take it only prior to working out or sleeping, if it bothers you that much. Else you're going to hinder your muscle gains.

You'll need to go to the doctor regardless. Just ignore when he tells you to lay off of it but definitely go lighter and focus more on your form. Perhaps even take shorter rest periods between sets to help get blood in the area, and make sure you warm up the elbow with some light triceps pressdowns prior to working out.

hey, BrooklynBB

How have you been?..thanks for the tip...Is that the supplement you're talking about?

from personal experience, i had a rotator cuff injury last march. i tried training lighter, trying to avoid exercises which caused pain, etc. i had pain 24/7 like you did. i knew that i was not healing so i took several months off. i HATED taking time off but it had to be done. now i am healed with no pain whatsoever. whatever you decide, i hope you heal fast. nothing worse than having to take time off.

Not so funny bone....

My dad calls me "an accident waiting to happen" ever since I was little. I was always so clumsy. My mom sign me up for ballet lessons because she thought it might help... I took for a year and that was that.

It sucks to be injured. I've hit that elbow before like you did and left it bruised pretty bad. It just took time to heal. Hope you start feeling better soon.

Sassy thanks...what I didnt say, is that I also hit the same spot twice since...yikes!... I thought I was going to cry the second time....it hurt just as bad and sent pain down my arm each time, so I'm walking a little more careful, trying not to do 10 things at once, like I do.....multitasking has gone down to 3-4 things at once.
I think most women that do so much may come across as clumsy.......at least it sounds good:)

OMG... the multi-tasking is totally out for me lately. I've been so overwhelm with stuff that I can't even concentrate on one thing lately much less multi-task. Everlast keeps telling me that my circuits are overloaded and have shorted out. I think he's right

You know you could have damaged the soft tissue in there so you might wanna go to the doc just to find out if you did any real damage, it sounds like you hit the nerve there(funny bone), I would take aleve or advil daily for a week straight and then see if it is better, (stuff works great for me, I too am always getting hurt as i work construction) but MAKE SURE YOU EAT FIRST ! cuz that stuff is very hard on the stomach lining. and taking it for a week won't really hinder your progress significantly, and may help a lot. Let us know how you do either way.

Which part of your elbow did you hit? Medial/lateral? Any numbness in your pinky and ring fingers?

Nemo, it was medial, right between the funny bone, and the bone just in front of elbow....and it does feel like soft tissue/nerve, not joint. No dumbness....It will be worst tomorrow on arms day, and it also hurts for back and chest workouts...today for legs, it's fine, only a little sore. Ice and advil help, but it has been wks now, since the on going pain since the initial hit.
Thanks:)

Sounds like you dinged your ulnar nerve and got a little ulnar neuritis going on, but it doesn't sound too bad. Not much you can do for that besides avoiding activities that involve flexing your elbow until it resolves. It wouldn't be a bad idea to go see your Dr just to make sure you didn't fracture your medial epicondyle.

That sucks M. :( I sounds like my injury = soft tissue. I went to the doc and he put me on anti-inflammatories (Aleve).

Me too…

Back in January I somehow over-stressed my left elbow deadlifting and it started giving me serious pain. After 2 trips in almost as many months to my sports ortho guy, they can't find anything seriously wrong, at least requiring surgery.

His advice, ease up on the heavy weight and give it time to heal. He also gave me a script for Cataflam (NSAID) and that helps a lot. After 2 months its just now starting to feel normal again.

I would use Advil or Alieve and try to work around it. Let the inflammation subside. It may take some time to settle down. Welcome to the frustrating part of lifting.

I hate to see anything happen to you Marilyn, because you are looking great. I agree with others, ease up and just do more repetitions. If I trained heavy on triceps, I would be hurting. I believe Tom Platz trained with high reps and his legs were, Well enough said!
