Have been on a GH cycle sinnce July. worked up to 4 i/u day. recently, my heart rate has elevated to 92-99 bpm resting! I have always been in mid to high 60's. Went to the cardiologist today for stress test. He said everything looks fine but not sure why my heart rae is so high. Has anyone else experienced this as a "side effect" while on GH?

My friend had something similar happen while on GH. He had a pre existing condition though. His resting HR was about what yours was. They ended up having to burn two nerves near the heart to get it back down.

I've never had anything like this before and have no known pre-existing condition. I'm getting a little freaked out, trying to get some info, before I stop the cycle. It could be an infection, although my temp is actually 97.4. so I doubt it.

They can give you meds to slow it down. It can't be good to have an elevated HR 24 hours a day.

Increased HR and BP can be a side of increased gh; it is for me for an hour or so after admin. Do you have the elevated HR all day though? If so, maybe try reducing dose and/or go off for a couple weeks and see if it returns to normal...then you'll know if its the gh.

Yes, the doc can give someone with an elevated heart beat a bp med called metoprolol which will slow down heart rate. I was on this medication years back and it helped slow down my heart rate.

Eric. Your friend's condition was unlikley related to his GH usage. He most likely had either atrioventricular nodal reentry tachycardia (AVNRT) or atrioventricular reentry tachycardia (AVRT) [or what others might refer to as a paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia]. What they ablated were unlikely to be nerves; rather, they ablated an actual conduction pathway (i.e., cardiac muscle) that was causing the reentry and elevated rate. Any type of arrhythmia (like the aforementioned) would have been observed on EKG, etc. I hope this info helps.

With regards to the OP, although that heart rate is elevated, and may be secondary to changes in vascular volume, etc. due to GH-related sides, the heart rate is still less than 100 (i.e., the low end of tachycardia). The beta-blocker given will help reduce your heart rate (and any symptoms you may be having), but I would also recommend being candid with your physician about your growth hormone use. Based on the limited information you provided, I would suspect that your BP will return to its normal baseline state within a reasonable period of time after discontinuing GH use. I hope this info helps as well.

The last thing anyone should ever be doing is taking a beta-blocker unless it's absolutely necessary.

I was merely informing the OP of the medication that is used to slow heart rate down. I wasn't telling him to use it.

Understood! I just hate to think of someone looking into getting on a medication like that unless they had looked into other methods of lowering their HR. In all honesty, if nothing is making the HR return to norm, than the answer probably lies within reducing the GH dose or discontinuing it all together.

Bro, I'm all for using other natural methods to solve the problem. I believe that prescription meds should be a last resort for anything.
