Good afternoon boys. I was hoping to get some quick help on the topic.

My grandfathers EGFR is fluctuation between 18-24 and is nearing the end of this kidney life before he will require dialysis. Is he 84 years old and eats well. His bp is 140/60 and hes currently taking terazosin, perindopril and Amlodipine.

I wanted him to ask his doctor about Telmasartin. But I also remember Leo and Longetivity talking about a new drug that Fouad was using that was helping his GFR but I cant find the friggen episode and cant rememebr what the drug was called. I was hoping someone here could remember.

I am thinking it was Canagliflozin.

Any comments or questions are welcomed !

Thanks bros. God bless.

irbisartan !!!!

this is the one leo was discussing. Fouad is taking it.

As someone who's had a family member in the same situation

I would have him discuss some serious topics like longevity on dialysis, and symptom progression during ESRD with his PCP and Nephrologist

BP is partially elevated due to renal insufficiency and the things that come with it as well in kidney patients; Def work with a good nephrologist on this, I would put down a list of questions that you have and ask them anything and everything you have questions on

Hypertensive nephropathy isn't exactly reversible especially once you've reached ESRD. As thethinker48 wisely stated, using a new ARB will not reverse the decades worth of damage in any significant way. You have very few options at this point and one of them has already been mentioned by thethinker48. The other ones will very likely lead to HD in due time. Best of luck.

I don't know that there's any coming back from an e-gfr that low but try the Astragalus route, 6+ grams a day split in 3 or more doses. Dante would be a great source on this one. I'm sure he's dealt with bodybuilders that had a e-gfr this low. Age may be a big factor here. Best of luck Killer!

They are giving my grandfather a shot of aranesp and darbpoetin

not sure why. I guess to bump up RBCs?

I am thinking it was Canagliflozin.

I had never heard of that so I wanted to look it up out of curiosity.

Canagliflozin, sold as Invokana by Janssen, cut the risk of renal failure or death by 30% in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) in a landmark trial.Apr 14, 2019

A new analysis of the sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor canagliflozin showed that it slowed the decline of kidney function in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) by 66%, and also reduced the risk of developing kidney failure and cardiovascular problems.Nov 19, 2020
