Exercises/Weights After Hip Replacement Surgery?

What's up everybody. I'm 51. Just had my hip replaced about 3 weeks ago. Anterior incision. The very next day the two PT guys and a nurse were apparently shocked how fast I was walking with a walker to the PT room. Then the PT guys were surprised how well I was using the stairs, getting up n down out of the chair, and getting in n out of the fake car set up thing they have. I saw my dr for a follow up the other day. He was apparently surprised how fast I got up out of the chair to say hello. I'm walking at a fairly fast pace for a half hour no problem and swelling has gone down a lot. Didn't need opiates after 5 days. I'm assuming I'm slightly ahead of the curve, but not getting too brasen. I'm gonna start doing treadmill for a half hour this week on a regular basis. Also gonna do some light upper body. What's anyone else's experience after hip replacement surgery? I appreciate anyone's input

Id just make sure you got the best pt you can access...Hopefully one that works with athlete...and follow guidance of them

I’ve had both mine replaced, the most recent one was this past July. After both surgeries I did a lot of walking, recommended by my surgeon. I made sure to walk every hour, increasing the distances daily and did my stretches and home exercises. My second replacement, I only went to therapy once or twice, and it was really so I could use the ice machine. I was back in the gym the second time probably 10-14 days after the procedure. With that said, I didn’t do anything too crazy or heavy, progressed weekly. I’d just be smart and listen to your body. Your hip will tell you what is too much.
Good luck in your recovery

Not me personally so I can’t give exact timelines…. A friend who was a powerlifter had one done at a pretty young age, I’m thinking late 30s. And while idk exact days and weeks, i remember being shocked at how fast he was able to start training again. The doctors are really pretty good at this shit these days, and most times it seems patients are up walking the first day. So impressive. I’m sure you’ll be back in no time.

Ron partlow just had hip surgery. I'm sure if you were to dm him on Instagram or ask the question on his podcast he would be happy to give his experience

Good luck

I have seen Ron and other x pro BBers talking of how quick they were walking. With some walking out with a walker the same day as the surgury. And being active and not stupid. Then there is Roman Fritz, don't think i would follow his theories of recovery. While i haven't had a hip replaced my other surgeries/replacement point to being active and eating well being the foundation for a good recovery.

roman fritz, dave tate and @homonunculus have had hip replacements as well, maybe they have some insight

Immediately after surgery they will have you get dressed and start walking. I used a walker, had to walk to therapy room, go up and down 3 steps. Once that was completed they made me pee and I was on my way home. Biggest thing my surgeon said……
Don’t fall
