Experience with PRP

Has anyone had experience w/PRP? Anyone had success? Is it a waste of cash? I have read many people saying that there just isn't any or enough literature supporting it to be very useful. Then i have read other accounts where people truly believe it helped. My ortho said with backs he's had a 40-50% chance of success. He doesn't believe i'm a good candidate for surgery and he wasn't pushing hard for me to get PRP either. He just said it was an option. He did say he had a much higher success rate with elbows, knees, and shoulders.

is this where a doctor injects something into your tendon to cause it to heal faster?

Prolotherapy

I had my hips done 10 yrs ago. And it worked well. Injections hurt a bit but it did start my hip healing. Within a few days I started itching inside my hips I could feel it working. I did it after I went to get my hip looked at by my ortho and he told me I was a candidate for a hip replacement at 35 lol I said fuck that and had this old retired German doctor do it for me in his home. Iv been mulling over having my shoulder done. If the person doing it is not experienced I would not let them do it. If they inject the wrong spot it can be catastrophic and cause bad infection and pain. He used charcoal,glucose and lidocaine in the solution. Evidently German doctors were doing this 50-60 years ago as an alternative to joint surgery and had great success with it. One of my pro strongman friends turned me into it and the doctor.

My bother in laws a competative runner. Places in the top 10 for his age group consistently. He's had it done twice now in both knees one of which he had surgery on about 8 years ago. So far he says it's helped him stay in the game. It wasn't cheap though since med insurance doesn't cover it.

I tried twice on a long time tendinopathy of my left proximal hamstring tendon. The MRI showed the tendinopathy and the ultrasound appeared to show nasty scar tissue from a poorly healed tear. They both did nothing...Any benefit most likely would be to a current injury. The first was $600 cash and the second $200 cash, insurance does not cover, but you can search out a competitive price.

Had it done for plantar facitis, Fing Dr. Drug the needle along my tendon made it worse for the next 2 weeks. Got a kenolog shot on week 2 afterwards to remove the inflamation as I couldnt walk briskly. Never had an issue since, been over 1 yr now

I'm actually a sales rep part time for a doctor who specializes in regen rx. My .02c, start with prolotherapy before PRP, its half the price and for many of our clients including myself worked just as well.
