Experiment with Salt and the PUMP

So I read an article (Cant find it now) where the author says, yes you get a pump from your pre-workout carbs, but a lot of your pump comes from salt. SO the last 2 weeks I wanted to experiment this myself to see if it has any merit. I worked out in the morning and all of them were fasted so I could make sure the pumps were from the salt and not from carbs that were pre-workout. When I left the house to go to the gym, I dissolved about 1t of sea salt flakes in about have a coffee cup of warm water and slammed it. My pumps were insane!!!! Today was pull day and I immediately noticed my lats and mid back were getting a hell of a pump. Then when I went to bis, it was crazy. By the end of my workout, the skin on my bis felt like it was going to split. I have never had such a great pump in my life. It has been like that with every single body part during this little experiment. Just some food for yall to munch on.

So what does it mean? Is it helping to build or sepperate more muscle tissue? Man i dont know. Im not that smart. Is the salt allowing my body to shove more glycogen into the muscles? I know a lot of us lift for the pump and man it did that for sure. Next month I am going to cycle all my carbs around my workout (50 pre and 100-150 post) and along with that, I am going to add in 1-2t of salt pre workout with those carbs to see what that does. Kinda interesting to a knuckle head such as myself LOL

Been doing this for years. For some reason Celtic and Himalayan Sea Salts work the best for me. Higher mineral content maybe but the pumps are really good. Add 20mg cialis for even more fun.

I do a little bit of pink Himalayan salt 1 hour pre workout with water, then throw some in my intra workout (about 1/4tsp) each time.

Significant pump increases and vascularity goes nuts. I’ll never not use salt. Probably the most simple and effective ingredient you can add

Carbs
Pink Himalayan salt
Cialis
Little bit of l citrulline and l Arginine
And glycerol for added measure
+ a little insulin pre workout

= most diabolical pump of your life

Considered tossing in a few hundred mg of potassium citrate to enhance your E1-E2 ion cycle-> sodium-potassium pump (Na+/K+ ATPase). And as @Sectør suggested to further add cellular osmolality (high-volume fluid compartment within the muscle cells) - toss in some glycerol.

Carbs/insulin and sufficient hydration all play a significant role.

Just he careful adding potassium if are taking an ARB like telmisartan

Yes, correct. Although it's a bit nuanced. 200–300mg of potassium is quite small relative to the daily requirement (2,600 to 3,400 +/- mg). - same requirements for those on ACEi and ARBs. If your renal function is mucked-up and or if someone is taking any other pharmaceuticals that affects potassium reabsorption. Then yeah, hyperkalemia will be knocking thee electrochemical gradient on the ole ticker.

I've been on 20mg lisinopril for a few decades. Occasional 300mg of K+ pre-workout hasn't sent me into arrhythmias or cardiac arrest. Or shifted my K+ levels on my labs.

Some of the pre's and pump products I use have a himilyan salt in them. A combo of L- citrulline, glycerol and some insulin promotes some pretty good pumps.

a thread by Scott Abel on T-Nation (my old stomping ground)

from almost 20 years ago.. so this whole sea salt thing isn't exactly a groundbreaking revelation

so potassium also helps with pumps? does this help with contractions also?

im harkening back to my THC overdose a couple weeks ago :D

bill was almost $9,000 lmao.. thank God for health insurance

It's not about adding volume like sodium or glycerol. It's regulating contractual electrical integrity and functional capacity of cell membranes.

How the two different ions– sodium and potassium work in tandem. Sodium causes depolarization (activation) via influx (inward movement) of the cell. Contrastingly, potassium causes repolarization (reset) via effluxing (outward movement) of the cell to restore the negative charge, allowing the cell to fire again.

This will give a bit of insight on how potassium directly flips the switch off towards repolarization-> action potential-> contractual movement.

so potassium will help with muscle contractions?

maybe you can make an AI program so all your knowledge can be deciphered into language that can be understood by inbred retards like myself

YES....on a reg. before going on stage, people would be passing salt packs and soy sauce packets around.

HUGE pumps (for the stage, when lean)...but i would not recommend this as a training protocol.

as it could become a dangerous habit.

does it work??? fuck yes it does. and when timed right works wonders on a stage.
i'm guilty of doing this before "going out" on the town, just to look jacked......once in awhile.
my BP would be BLASTED by the time i got home. but look good in the coffin.:cautious:
