I tried Tony Freemans high rep leg workout on Tuesday, now I can't move my legs. I have had that really deep muscle soreness where it feels sore to the bone, but this is different. It feels like the lactic acid is still there like I just finished my leg workout. I have a high pain tolerance but this is unbearable. I'm taking a high dose of ibuprofen and trying to stretch but I can't curl my leg back more than a couple inches. Any help please.

walk, get blood flow into the legs. will suck it first but they will loosen up quickly

Definately what edge said... I high rep workout with LIGHT weights, to get blood into the muscle will work too. Plenty of carbs and protein to help with recovery as well. The blood that is coming into your muscles should be carrying plenty of nutrients to help with recovery

.

take some pms medication cuz you be crying like a woman..

seriously though...

stairs, up and down..

take double stairs up and go down slowly.. until you get a pump/burn..

then take a rest and repeat a few times throughout the day..

this is what i do if i get really bad soreness..

That kind of soreness indicates extreme muscle trauma and I would not do anything that forced the muscles to work or tear more (stretch) get in some therapy like soaking in a hot tub and massage the area gently-then move onto light walking and stretching and then possible some low impact aerobic exercise like the elliptical.

markl, can you describe this high rep leg training? I am interested.

Apparently you don't understand, I have to go up the stairs with my feet as wide as they can go one step at a time. They are so tight and sore that I couldn't do that if I wanted to.

leg extensions 3-4 x 25, front squats 4 x 8-25, smithmach. squats 2 x 20, leg curls 3-4 x 8-20. All these sets are aiming for 25 reps, but I had trouble reaching that number once they were on fire.

I agree with Massive:

IF I WERE YOU

Light activity and stretching within normal pain limits.
NSAID such as ibuprofen or Naproxen sodium.
LIght massage.
Consider these, too (can be bought at a natural health foods stoor or chinese herb apothecary):

Traumeel internal homeopathic (or cream if you can't get the pill or drops)

Chinese herbal formula:

**broken link removed**

Topical application of tiger's balm (white version, not red version - i'd want the cooling stuff).

Watch urine for blood or strange discoloration and drink lots of fluids.

HOT WATER

This works good for impact/ work injuries or just old fashioned sore, overworked muscles.
Got it straight from my grandpa, an almost locally famous semi pro boxer.

Hit the tub...soak 20-30 min in a heavily mixed epsom salt bath as hot as you can stand it.
(say 105-110 degrees)
Get out and stretch, walk and move some blood through them. Massage them directly and try to rub into the knots and loosen them up.
(This will suck)
Feel free to cry, or whine as needed but get the knots to loosen up.
Get back into a hot epsom salt bath and soak 20-30 min or so.
Spend the time constructively by alternating the crying with repeating aloud "all pain is ignorance leaving the body"
(not really, but it sounds good with the bathroom echo)
Repeat as needed

This is kinda like the entry price to an exclusive club, most people never do anything that will hurt this much.
