False Grip Benching

Ouch, what the hell is wrong with people there are so many bench videos of guys dropping huge ammounts of weight on there chest. Is it there bench style trying to grip it low? or roll there shoulders down? I never have this problem.
 
that exactly why i dont do thumbless grip on presses :eek:
 
both of these idiots were dead in the wrong.

#1 the spotter should never EVER let go of the damn bar untill the bencher tells him to, he lifted the bar over the guys chest and assumed he had it! (GUESS NOT HUH?)

#2 the bencher clearly never told him (the spotter) he wasn't ready, he "assumed" the spotter was gonna hold it up there for a second until he said something like "got it" thats the cue for the spotter to let go, (GUESS NOT HUH?) as a spotter you should always ride your hands down with the bar as then bencher goes down, so do you. Just barely keeping your hands close enough that if something like this happens you can lesson the injury. WTF:confused:
 
I will NEVER do thumbless ever again... and that's how I bench... scares the shit out of me now.

Second... that fucking spotter. There was a spotter I had when I hit 315 on the bench after a long time off. Twice when I needed him, he picked up the entire weight on his own and dropped it in my hands. I have no clue how I was able to work out.

On the squat.... after a llllllllllllllllllllllllllllong time off and back into the game... I'm trying to get up to my former 405 work out squat right? When I knew I could get 315 lbs I needed a spotter... I went to the front desk of our Company's Wellness Center (they are all have degrees in something physical ok?). I ask him if he knows how to spot on squat... "sure!" he says. We go to the cage .... 4 reps in I'm struggling to come out of it... he puts his hands on my waist and pushes me forward!!!! Just out of shear anger I mustered the strength to overcome him and the weight and rack it. I wanted to beat the shit out of him with a dumbell!!!! this is coming from a guy who's torn his erectors in a squat manuever.

I always do Flat bench with a false grip seems to work best for me.
I can understand how a trainer wouldnt want clients to use that type of grip though.

I dont think hes going to be doing that any time soon.
you might be able to get away with doing that on smith machine but not regular. to risky and doesnt really benifit you anyway.

you have seen how i bench, it just seems natural to me. i havent maxed out in a while but i think i wrapped my fingers all the way around for the 500 i did a while ago. i was just scared of the wt. but i too would never have a pt client use a "monkey" grip. anyone remember it being called the monkey grip???

I think he was just trying to use too much weight because if that thing slipped out of his hands, one spotter wasnt going to stop it from dropping. It happened so fast that I dont think even at a PL meet, it would have been saved. Still, it doesnt look like those guys were on the same page with spotting. When I press, I always give directions because I dont want some dude helping me when I dont need it or neglecting me when Im fucked.

I know for some people it feels better, but for me, the cost/benefit ratio is just too high. Its why I dont do reverse grip benching either, too much crap that could go wrong. Give me a 405 olympic squat without a rack anyday over that ")
 
I've never had a problem with that type grip. Use it all the time
for close grip benches. Just too much weight for the guy.
I will add that doing benches like that make sure you have full
control of that bar and just enough weight that you'd feel
comfortable with.
