Fascinating study on Acute Mountain Sickness (Altitude Sickness) and use of EPO (with viagra, weird but ok)

As an avid snow-skier susceptible to altitude sickness, I've been interested in a solution. For the first few days, I'm always fighting the misery that comes from the altitude. Since the problem is a lack of oxygen, I was interested in what role EPO could play. I read a study that showed significant reduction in altitude sickness among the volunteers for the study.

As a strange side note, I learned that sildenafil (viagra) can also really help mitigate the high altitude problems.

What I found strange is how the researcher gave the participants 40 mg of viagra each while they were all paired up in tents in the Himalayas.

In summary they claim that this protocol had big success and so that is why I've started my own research to see how it may work for me. I'd love nothing more than to go on a ski trip and feel acclimated from day one. And if I have to walk around with a 40 mg viagra boner, that's just the price you pay to live in paradise

One word; Diamox.

Nothing else comes close.

So you've taken it then? I'm forever dealing with altitude sickness when I go high. It screws me out of a day or so on vacation. I push through it but damn I'm slow on hikes when I hit 10K, embarrassingly slow so I've started doing a LOT of cardi training. It won't solve my problem but perhaps keep it bay. I'm thinking EPO, sildenafil, and now this diamox

Yes. Just use diamox. Safe and effective. KISS.

Diamox 100%

I spend 99% of my time at sea level or within a couple hundred feet of it , but I make trio out west for hunting and it often above 8k feet where it starts to effect me.

I've tried taking higher dose of EQ for 6 weeks leading into hunts , 30mg Cialis staring the week leading into a hunt , 25mg Viagra multiple times a day and nothing works that well.

If you are prone to high altitude sickness and try Diamox, the climbers I know start taking it a few days before they're going to be at altitude. And remember to still get a ton of fluids. Hydration may help as much as the Diamox. In fact it was debated for years among climbers that the diuretic effects of Diamox made it a wash in reducing edema because dehydration at altitude, like a hangover, can make a guy feel awful. Headache and nausea are most common.

And if you start taking Diamox upon reaching altitude, the days it would take to have an effect on edema or blood O2, you would have likely already acclimated. But these were pretty extreme conditions. Others have told me it increases oxygen binding capacity so increased ABG. And low blood O2 will put you in misery as well.

But whether it's increased O2 or reduced edema or just hydration and acclimatization, I would try it if I was nauseous.

I never got mountain sickness though. Even at high camp on Chimborazo and that was over 17k feet.

And forget EPO. That will increase blood's overall oxygen carrying capacity by increasing RBCs but at altitude your blood is already going to be doing that by itself.

I'm assuming diamox is a vasodilator?
I've never felt that it had any vasodilator property at all , generally anything like that give me a head ache and stuffy nose to some degree.

I think this actually works on how the blood is able to absorb oxygen or something along those lines.
