Fatigue/Brain Fog Day After High Protein Dinners

I've noticed on days after eating a high protein dinner (50-60g+) the following day I dont feel rested and get a good amount of brain fog.

It just dawned on me when I didn't have time to eat dinner two different nights this past week, got very little sleep and ended up being more alert and having a clearer mind.

I have my own theories on why this is happening (could be a chicken allergy, could be high levels of amino acids like ammonia/homocysteine - MTHFR issue, etc) but I'd like to know if anyone else has had this type of problem or what a resolution could be?

Thanks for any info

Last night I had a bag of Brussels sprouts for dinner (lol) and felt much better this morning. I’m going to have beef instead of chicken for dinner and see if that makes any difference tomorrow

I was having a similar issue.. felt like my head was stuffed full of cotton.

I have a very high protein diet (over 400g per day)

I got very fast relief from taking high doses of citrulline... which makes me think that it was indeed related to ammonia.

It could be. I just posted about this in my log. I am off everything and eating what I want for a break. I noticed my sweat was smelling of ammonia. It's a sign your body is using protein as fuel. So I made sure to add a decent amount of carbs pre workout the next day and also 30g HBCD's intra and problem solved. It's very common on high protein diets especially when carbs are restricted. Smack's issue is likely different and could be due to many possible reasons. High protein diets/meals can definitely throw the body off though.

yeah it was when I was on PSMF and DNP

gonna be using a lot of glycerin for my next run with genotec.

I find whey isolate is the best thing to knock me out at night. If I’m not tired at bed time i drink a shake and fall right to sleep. I haven’t notciced a correlation between high protein and sluggishness the next day though. I’ve been on high protein for 31 years so I guess normal to me is sluggish. 🐌

It's most likely the tryptophan content in the whey shake. Although coming from you it could be the fact you just spanked the monkey 3 times in bed watching midget porn that makes you feel tired :p

Granted I'm a little different since I'm also eating a good amount of fats and some carbs, I was thinking of slamming 10g CM after I eat. Just trying one variable at a time. Had a stuffy nose last night so I couldnt use my cpap.

Yeah, I'm not on a PSMF currently and eating fairly liberally (no strict diet). My best guess is high ammonia or homocysteine (DNA testing shows I have the MTHFR defect).

6g l-citrulline 3 times daily could work well for you. Even if it didn't work the added pumps and vascularity alone would be worth it :)

Oh, I love citrulline pre workout.

I ate 1/2 lb ground beef for dinner. Gonna drink 12g CM before going to bed and see how I feel tomorrow morning....

+1 same issue

It’s been 4 months since i took testosterone so i rarely spank it. 😀
I just started Clomid, nolvadex, and MK-677 last night as my self prescribed “legal” HRT.
Maybe I’ll be a porn fiend like little Slice again one day? 🐕

Woke up before my alarm this morning and had more energy. Think it's pretty safe to say ammonia is part of the issue

really....

noticing being sluggish NEXT day from protein consumption.... honestly one of the dumbest things i have heard. just being honest. sounds utterly ridic.
you guys are HYPER sensitive to stuff. thats amazing higher or lower protein affects ur energy lmao......
EDIT: i ate broccoli and couldnt sleep all night. it must be the broccoli (sarcastic as can be)

You're saying this is stupid yet you lack basic reading comprehension...

I said when I have a high protein dinner the next morning I wake up feeling poorly rested and have brain fog. You're aware digestion of whole foods takes hours, not to mention a large, high protein meal taking even longer... Hence baseline lab work is recommended to be done AT LEAST 8 hours after a "normal" person meal.

You clearly have done no research on the topic. I also mentioned I have the homozygous MTHFR mutation... Did you even bother to look what that is? People with this mutation consistently are poor methylators and have high levels of ammonia and/or homocysteine. Again these are people who eat like "normal" people. Not high protein BB style diets.

Next time you're going to call someone stupid maybe (just MAYBE) you should have some background knowledge so you dont look stupid yourself....

Just a thought... But then again being ignorant and condescending is so much easier.

Im just suprised you call 50-60+g protein high protein meal, as i rarely have a meal that has less than 60g protein in it. I have no problem going over 100g protein in a meal, and usually do that before bed so i have some protein to digest through the night.
Over to topic, when eating little carbs this can interfere with sleeping as we need carb to make melatonin to sleep well. So if you eat a big meal with little carbs, and more protein then you are used to, this will affect you in some way.
