Hey all....what is your favorite steak? I have been getting shoulder steaks from a local meat store. They are lean, and cheap. I usually marinade them for a bit, with the lowest sodium marinade I can find, then grill em up. Any other favorites?

Are the shoulder steaks tough??? Everytime I get them they're a little on the tough side. I use tenderizer but still tough for some reason

Standing rib roast...you can cut it into big steaks too, each steak gets a bone. Not a low calorie option, but sooo good.

I actually buy my grass fed beef as part of a meat share program, so I get all sorts of cuts I'd not usually buy. Biggest surprise so far: Heart is awesome.

My favorite food on earth...Steaks. I gotta go with NY strip and then prolly Flank. I can go for a bloody Filet Mignon every now and then too.

Flat Iron Steak is becoming my favorite. Almost as tender as a filet, almost as tasty as a NY Strip, about as lean as 90% ground beef, and relatively cheap if you shop around.

Not that this helps anyone outside of Maryland but my NY Strip from this place...

New Page 1

is the best I've EVER had. Masters of their craft for sure.

As far as what I can afford and actually eat several times a week... I generally stick with top round. Quick sear on the grill or a flat top if it's raining and a few minutes in the oven, very simple seasoning heavy on the sea salt. For 1.89-2.50/lb I can't justify paying a ton more for a slightly "better" steak cut.

You should try some chuck cuts...they are cheaper as well and very good. higher in fat though then round. cook on high heat to break up the connective tissue..awsome
