I do hear more guys popping them on preacher curls, should we move away from preacher curls? my wrist would of hated doing a straight bar like that. maybe just standing with a little swing is safest way to go, anyone pop em that way here?

i cant do them with bars due to lack of wrist mobility

but i think the trick is to not let your arms straighten out all the way like he did in the video

Properly performed they are relatively safe. They do place undue stress on the lower biceps which contributes nothing to it’s development.

His problem was that he was using wayyy too much weight. (Look at the fotos.)
And I’ll bet the injury occurred in the first few reps. Not a smart guy me thinks.

If he thought he needed bigger arms he is going to have a real problem on his hands now.

I once trained with a man who had the same injury. It literally destroyed a very promising career as a professional baseball pitcher.

Preacher curls don't tear biceps, dumb lifting tears biceps.

If you are going to take my preacher bench you are going to have to pry it out from the grip of my cold dead armpits.

Yikes that's scary and when I do preachers I use the ezbar and no more than 60lbs total plus not locking my arms out but keeping a slight bend. That video should be instructive to those who do the exercise wrong or go ego-lifting.

BTW Larry Scott, the dude who popularized the device, most often used it different than the way we usually see. Skip to 2:50

Guys use way to much on the preacher curl. I use 25lb dumbbells and have just under 20inch arms. In fact I think guys train there arms way to heavy in general which is why many people struggle to develop their arms.

Having snapped both quad tendons with not much weight, the mechanical factor cannot be overlooked. I think besides using too much weight, he overextended a bit, placing the tendons in a very vulnerable position.
